Charge-off status change - HUH?

Just looked at my TU report and a charged off tradeline has been changed from "profit and loss" to "closed by credit grantor". It was just updated. The balance increased and everything else is the same (still says charge off). I have only ever seen that comment on an account that has been paid off.

Has anyone else had this happen? And what in the heck is it supposed to mean? I just don't get the logic behind the OC changing the status.

I don't get what they mean either, but if anybody out there knows, I'd like to know too.

It definitely has a high "HUH?" factor.

They may have just re aged the debt.

check to make sure that the date closed is the same as date charged off.

call and ask "when does this come off my report"

I think it should be seven years from write off date.

The closed date is exactly the same as it was before the comment change. I looked at that first to make sure they didn't re-age the account. That is why I am shaking my head because it makes no sense to have that comment on a charge off. So far I have only seen it on TU but the OC hasn't updated the other CRA's yet.
