I have 16 charge offs a year old. I'm planning on disputing them. After reading the boards it looks like I should only dispute 4 at a time to avoid it being frivilous. Am I reading things correctly?

    Hi,

I would say 4 is about right (maybe someone has had success with more).

I know that sending too many will get your disputes labeled as frivolous.

I wonder, is the SOL far enough in your state that they won't try to come after you for payment?
You said they were 1 year old?

At one year old, the SOL isn't up in any state. Shortest SOL is 3 years for open accts.

Yes, I knew, I worded it incorrectly.

Thank you for clearing it up for me :)

    Dear Bigmon,

Don't forget you will be waking up some giants when you do this.

    :)

Thanks for the responses. I'm in CA and the SOL is 4 years. I am concerned about waking up sleeping giants, but most of the advice I've gotten is I'm too far away from the SOL to wait. My total amount due is 90k. If they get too pushy I'll just go BK and start over.

    Dear BigMon,

By all means take your time. There is tons of reading and studying to do before you take action on debt of this size. BK should be your last resort, if at all possible.

Take a month and just read and ask questions. Though already in the Financial Planning business I've learned so much from this board and I feel I've barely scratched the surface.

I signed up about 7 weeks ago. So far the "stack of stuff" I've printed is 2 feet high, just to give you an idea.

    Keep us posted.

    Butch,

Don't print the stuff out. Save a couple of trees and your toner or inkjet.

I save the pages to a file on my hard drive. That way I can import it into a freeform database to search on what I need. It makes it a lot easier to keep track of the stuff.

I would love to know more about the "freefrom DB".

    :)

I usually sit in front of my puter screen till my head explodes. Then I read paper with my trusty highlighter in hand. I pitty the poor B%Astd that takes me to court.

    LOL

Should put this on top 10 addict signs.

I have gotten sneaky. I just cut/paste the info in word. I try t combine the topics into a separate word doc. have a doc for law suits, 30 day lates, court cases, etc.

I have an IPAQ, too. transfer the docs there to read when I get a sec....
