Hello, I am newbie and am loving everything I am reading! I am just starting my good credit journey this week. I have a question regarding charge offs. Will paying off charge offs 3 years old and older help my credit, or will it be money wasted? I ask because most of my baddies are old charge off. Thanks for any advice. P.S. Anybody tried Lexington Law Firm with good results? Thanks

First think everyone of us newbies learn is do not pay for anything! First dispute, as not mine. If it comes back verified see what they verified then validate. But before you do that. Work on getting all your former address deleted and if there are different versions of you name, get those deleted also.

Read the primer and best of luck, I have done pretty well

Thanks for replying to my post, I really appreciate it. Even if the debts are mine, I should dispute? Sounds like a much more wallet friendly way to go, but will it work? Is that how people are able to raise their scores so quickly? Do I need to go through a credit repair place, or can I really do this on my own? Also, If I send letters for ALL of my bad accounts won't the cb get suspicious? I just wanted to know. Thanks

What state are you in and what state did you live in when they were charged off?

Picantel also brought up the right question that I forgot to mention, the statue of limitations (SOL) this is also very important. as for lexington, there is nothing they can do that you cannot do for yourself for LESS.

Read the faq, and look at my signature, proof is in the pudding

BIG UP TO THE BOARD, got some new collections added but We are gonna get them. still trying to figure out how to get rid of the new judgement with all the right info reporting. HOlla at your boy

    Dear KBanger,

While it is possible to use the techniques learned here to escape legitimate debt, it has never been the phylosophy of CNetters to evade responsibity.

If one receives products or services then one should pay.

It would be more accurate to say that we learn to negotiate settlement for same, while at the same time removing all derogotory information from our reports so that our credit is not destroyed for the next 7 years. This is a reasonable and fair exchange and thus a legitimate purpose.

    :)

Who knows & who cares? that's not their job.
Their responsibility is to obey the law.
It's your legal right to see to it that they do so.
    Nuff Said.

Well said. There was a guy on another board asking how to get out of paying child support. I had to laugh. Who would want to help someone not pay child support? I guess that's an extreme. But, I think the cool thing about this board is that everything we do is within the law. And anytime we have to get nasty with a creditor or CA or whoever, it's because they think we don't know the law. Someone's signature on this board is "you get what you settle for" or something like that. And it's very true (on a many levels).
