I have a charged off account for $800 and it's valid. I need for it to show as being paid because I'm buying a house so the lender said to pay it. How can I pay less than what was charged off? what wouuld you do in this situation . . .anyone. I've already went through the validation process and the debt was validated as being correct. So it looks like I'm going to have to pay but I don't want to pay the entire balance. What should I do . . . your advice please I only have a few weeks to resolve this.
Is this account still with the original creditor (OC), or with a collections agency (CA)? If it's with the OC, it might not hurt to call them and see if they'll settle for deletion, although some of this might depend on the nature of the debt and the time since it was originally incurred. Is it recent? I had some success in settling and deleting accounts, and even had FMC change an account to a positive status on a repo (no mention of that at all) after paying a portion of it. A. J.
Never admit this if you expect to fix your credit. The issue isn't do you owe it the issue is are they obeying the law.Don't confuse the two.
If they didn't send acopy of a contract bearing your signature and a complete accounting of the account it wasn't validated.
When I originally disputed this through the mortgage company it came back to me as verified. I don't remember this debt (yes, I remember having an account with them but I thought the thing was paid). The account is with the original debtor and when I called I told the lady I didn't remember the debt being owed and she simply said I would dispute it through the credit company which will make us research it because it's from so long ago I really don't have any records here to tell you why $800 was charged off? I don't know if I should call back and offer $400 to make this thing disappear or should I go through the whole process of disputing the debt only to have them simploy verify it again. Time ticketh I have about 5 weeks until closing what should I do experts? Thanks so much for all your advice and help . . . it's greatly APPRECIATED!
