I have a credit card account that is showing in a charged off status and has been sold two or three times to different CAs. Is there anything I can do to have the prior holders of this account removed from my credit report? All of the holders of this debt are showing on the report (the original creditor and the two previous CAs.

I just went through this today. I made the payment to the CA currently holding the debt. I called the other companies who all showed on my report for the same debt and they said they would remove it for me without me having to go through the dispute process with the bureau. They gave me addresses to send my explanation letter in to them and a list of info to include in the letter. Seemed good to me. I am just a newbie here, so maybe you should wait for the advice of one of the experts...

Thank you for the advise. I will give it a try. It can't hurt to try. If it worked for you it may work for me also. Any other advice is still welcome.

I would dispute the old CAs that no longer have the account, with the CRA as a first step.

When disputing with the CRAs on these accounts should I ask them to verify the accounts or should I use another method?
