Hello all, Been lurking a while, reading a lot and learning a lot. I'm just starting to get my plan of action together, and I know that though there are no real quick fixes, I'll get there eventually. However, I do need some quick advice on a pressing matter. I'm applying for an FHA mortgage, and according to the lender I'm good to go except for one glaring thing: a chargeoff on my report. It's for a Citibank account, around $2000, charged off in '01. It is legit. The lender needs "documentation verifying debt paid". My question(s): how best do I go about getting that documentation? I am fully willing and able to pay some sort of settlement - preferably for less than the full amount, though my main concern is just to get it taken care of. The problem is that I don't even know who to call. While there was a collection agency hounding me a couple of years ago, I have not heard from them in ages, and I don't remember who they were. Do I start with Citibank? Or would I be better served by trying to figure out who the CA was and working with them on a settlement? Would the OC ask for more money than a CA? And who would be able to get me the required documentation faster, such that my lender can push my mortgage app through? The one bright spot is that I'm not closing on the house until 9/3, so I have a little time to figure this out. But I don't want to drag it out and put the mortgage in jeopardy. Any help would be appreciated.
