December 2001 I applied for a Chase Platinum with a sweet balance transfer deal. Instead, they gave me their Classic card with the extra-crappy interest rate, which also automatically rescinded the balance transfer offer. Although I called to complain at the time, I was told all I could do to improve my terms was wait for their periodic reviews of the account. I've had this card now for 18 months, and not once have they improved on the credit limit or interest rate (there were some offers to raise my $1000 limit to $1500 if I took an extremely uncompetetive balance transfer deal.) I've used the card occasionally, even charging it up to near its paltry CL, and paid it off every month. They are not going to be charging me an interest rate that's 4 points higher than my next highest card. In the same time, I've gotten two other cards with better terms, plus all my other cards have given me either better terms or better one-time offers. Now I'm looking to try for a Citi Plat (possible, I think, since I've got a flawless record on my AT&T Universal Platinum). And I think it's time to finally ditch the Chase Crappic card. Agreed?
now now willga - no need to gloat i admit that i also have similar terms from chase as you do - but we're talkin about the platinum versus the classic ingenue: try calling their retention dept - they have way more ability to get you better terms - here's the tel: 1-800-345-8089 (ya see - willga - constructive, caring, compassionate
MARK you are so right I see the error of my ways thank you...................... PS glad to see you back from merry old england......
And the reason I wrote a responce in the first place is hang in there chase is a good prime credit card company build a little history and they will get better
Re: Re: Chase - byebye soon. 1) OK Willga - ALL is forgivin 2) It's good to be back. the USA RULES!!!!!!!!!!! 3) I'm still fighting my gambling, smoking & credit addictions... May the good Lord give me strength
ingenue, Not sure what your credit is like right now, but if your credit situation has improved over the last 18 months, why not call them to switch the classic to platinum? That's basically what I did (they initially gave me the classic card). I think they're an ok company
They didn't just give me a Classic card, they gave me the Classic Card with Alternate Pricing. The interest rate was almost 19%. My next highest rate, on another bank's Classic card, was only about 15%. My average interest rate on all balances I carry is about 6%. Chase has recently tried to win more business from me by dangling a $500 increase, contingent upon a balance transfer at 7.9% plus BT fees. (Um, hello, idiots at Chase, it's not going to work if I'm already paying 6%+0 fees). Even if they upgrade me to platinum, I doubt I'll get the 0% for a year/no BT fees BT deal that got me to apply in the first place. Since then I've applied for, and gotten, a store charge with a limit of $1200 (only $200 better, but it's a store charge - not in the same league), and a rewards Visa with a $4000 limit. On pretty much the same credit I got the Chase card on. And even if I ask for an increase, they'll probably pull a hard. I think I'd rather get rid of this toy card, since it increases my open lines of unsecured (bad), and doesn't offset with a high credit limit to improve ratios. And I think I'd rather use that hard inquiry to apply for Citi Plat with a potential 15 months of 0/0 BT.
Re: Re: Chase - byebye soon. Thanks for this post...my toy sock drawered Chase platinum only has a $2000 CL, and had no BT offer, (the 0% had expired and I had transferred the balance) and a 13.49% APR after having it a year this month...I just called the retention dept., told them to close the account and they gave me a 0% BT for a year, with a fixed 6.9% purchase rate, which was mainly what I was interested in...they would have pulled a hard inquiry to give me a CL increase, so I chose to wait and see if they did a yearly review in a month or two on that. I was seriously thinking of closing the account before you posted the phone number...thanks.
Re: Re: Re: Chase - byebye soon. Ingenue: Don´t close the account. Just wait until your TU score improve and apply again for another Chase card (Like universal Plat). Then if approved call and request to consolidate both accounts into the best card.
