OK- I've been perpetually hacked off at Chase Shell Platinum card.

They gave a toy card with $2000 limit, only after I griped on PFB about the limit, they upped me to $5k.

I do like the card--the only one I use for my gas purchases.

The acct. (19 mos old, perfect history) has gone nowhere since they upped me to $5k, that was over a year ago. I ask for an increase, but then get upset b/c they think they need to hit me with a hard inq, despite the soft inquiries they pull every ~3wks. ANYHOW.

I put a business expense on the card last month, $2300. Only reason I used the Chase card was b/c I was on the phone, no wallet, the Chase card was in my drawer.

Before last month, my high balance with chase was $223. This month my balance was $2380, and they just rewarded me with (Drumroll, please) a $100 CL increase!

Man does this make my day! (sigh) 2%!

Honestly: Amex Blue instant-approved me for $9k this spring while my debt was much higher. MBNA seems to love me for some reason, they give me $500 increases monthly for spending almost nothing. What kind of messed up internal scoring system is Chase using?

    I guess I'm impressed--they gave me _something_.

For those of you that have Chase cards and get regular CL increases: How do you do it?!?

They seem set against giving me the automatic increases which I am assured that my account is evaluated and considered for monthly. (hmmm)

    NOT ME!!!

THEY SAID "HARD" even after the every 3 weeks "SOFT" and 2+ years of PERFECT payments!!!

Maybe it's like MBNA...I have to WAIT LONGER THAN 6 YEARS FOR A LIMIT INCREASE!!!

I have had my account with Chase for 1.5 years. I started with a $5,000 limit. I never asked for an increase because I heard they pull a hard inquiry. After a year, they increased my limit by $1,500 without asking. No inquiry. I use the card A LOT.
I started with the regular Platinum, but converted to the Shell Platinum about 6 months ago. The free gas rewards are great. Hopefully you will receive a large increase soon. They do monitor your reports consistantly so maybe they base their increases on your available credit with other issuers? Good luck to you.

We have a weird Chase CL increase story.

We had had the card for about 2.5 years with a CL of $2000. Had asked for increases several times and were turned down every time.

After we discovered Creditnet last Dec, and after having carried balances on the card for the entire time we had had it, we paid it off and stopped carrying balances at all, just paid it off every month. Still continued to ask for CL increases, were still declined. (They were pulling the worst report - TU.)

Around March, they increased the CL to $2500. In May they sent one of those BT offers that would increase the CL to $4000, of course we took advantage of it.

Someone on CN mentioned that Chase sometimes pulled EX so around the same time (late May) we called and asked if they would pull the EX report instead of TU for the increase. They said they would put in the request, but couldn't promise anything.

Here's the funny part. They asked how much of a line increase we wanted. We said "to $8000" figuring if we could double the CL that would be great.

First week of June, checked online and lo and behold we had a line increase from Chase. I MEAN THIS WAS AN INCREASE!

    OUR CL WAS NOW $12,000!

Apparently the request was put in for the increase itself to be $8000 and I don't know how it was approved, but it was. Interestingly, there is an AR on EX for June 13, but the increase was already there on June 3.

I'm giving all these details because to this day I don't know exactly how all of this happened, but we're not complaining.

I'm not sure if this info helps at all, but here it is FWIW.

Chase will pull a hard inq for increases - it goes to the same credit dept. that does the initial approvals.

They look hard at overall debt loads, overall debt capacity (limits -- i.e. if you have a ton of unused credit, they ask why do you need more).

I fought to get the Shell MC increased from $7 to $10 ... that was it (over 1.5 years ago), no automatic anything.

HOWEVER.. on a Chase Visa, they do send 1x a year the "increase your limit with this BT offer..." deals, and once when I called, the computer said "congratulations, you're eligible for a credit line increase of $1,300 ... to accept press <1>". No mention of that increase was made online or on the statement ... so ever since then, I call once per month on both accounts to see if it happens again (call me Pavlov's dog, but reward me and I'll do the same thing again!)

Hmmm, maybe I'll ask for an $8k increase. Pshaw!

I wish Chase wasn't so fond of that TU report; I don't think they've ever looked at any others. (I live in TX)

TU is consistently 40-50pts below EQ & EX, all three reporting mostly the same info.

If one were to bite the bullet and request an increase, do they pay much attention to the reason you request the incr.?

I mean, would it be better to ask for an increase for a big purchase, or a BT, or tell them the truth--you guys are embarass me by turning me down so much, I just want _something_ to get through!

I ask for a increase I was told no,so I wrote back I was not happy with chase not giving me alimit increase . They pull a hard on me and said I got to much credit for other Creditors, and said they are worry about two of my my four cards. The cards are still open, but Chase I think is running scare because of the Market. I have a 0 bal on all my chase cards.

OK b/c of my token $100 increase, I was a little insulted. Asked for a limit increase, only asked to go to 7500, figuring they could at least give me that.

We'll send you a letter with the results in 5-10.

Of course they turned me down, but get the reason they cited:

"You have already had a limit increase within the past 3 months."

    AUUUUUUUGH!

Why do they have to keep playing with me like this?! Haven't checked my TU this week, but I'll bet there's a new hard from Chase on there too. (!)
