Does Chase upgrade existing accounts (Classic -> Gold -> Platinum)?

nm, their site says those who apply for the Platinum are automatically considered for lower cards if necessary.

Applied online for the Platinum, they pulled TU instantly, but no immediate response. Called them, they said the application is ready for review and that I should call again later next week.

It would probably be declined for multiple INQs, in which case I'll send a PFB letter -- seemed to have worked for all 3 posters who tried it w/ Chase.

They invited me to upgrade to Platinum, nothing much changed, except I now pay a $39/yr fee for some extra benis, like restaurant discounts, etc.

Actually the 15.9% rate is the standard APR for a Chase classic. Did you inquire why you're getting classic terms on a Platinum product?
