    Hi everyone,

Just curious, what are my chances of being approved by chase with a 719 TransUnion privacyguard score?

    Thanks,
    Sal

Need to know your fico not fako. I have a 692 fako on equifax but fico is 788. There can be a big or small difference.

YOUR CHANCEs are getting approved unless u have very recent inquiry and newly opened accounts. let's say below 90 days.
I was recently approved with 629 fako EXP. score for chase universal card. Actually i was not planning to apply for it but got the pre-approved application on the mail. Applied online with the invitation code. ended up saying further processing.
After 3 days, I called them to check the status and it was approved for 11K and the balance transfer of 5K was proceed rightaway.
I was really scared that whether i will be ended up with one more inquiry. I already have chase credit card with them, they didn't made the hard inquiry. I think they did a soft inquiry. I had 3 previous inquiry about 2 to 6 month old.

Right now I have two inquiries about 60 days old and a few new accounts (BofA, 2 citibank, and bank one signature) I know it sounds crazy that I am even thinking of getting a chase, but I hear they are a very good bank, especially with balance transfers.

Every new card I've received so far have all pulled either experian or equifax, but I believe chase pulls transunion in california.

sal, you have excellent accts which you have recently opened... why not wait a while, let these accts age, and build up your CLs?

After some usage, I'm sure the prime banks you mentioned would offer you higher CLs, lower APRs, and excellent b/t rates.

Plus, after a year or so, the inquiries would also cease to be a factor and your FICO scores would go up.

Granted, these are a lot of "ifs," and I'm not a credit god or anything (just the Emperor X of Sub-Prime), but I think Chase is more likely to approve your application after seeing how you deal with your current cards...

But since Chase pulls TU in CA, and you have no inquiries on TU, maybe Chase will approve your appl now and give you the best terms, and you could have it all! If this happened, I would only clap and say congrats!

But then again, what if Chase pulls some other CR, sees the other inquiries and does not approve the acct? What if your acct does get approved, but Chase later does an AR on your other CRs and decides to jack your APR?

These are all possibiliities, just "what-if" scenarios, so please don't get upset! I don't know what will happen!

But what I do know is the malady known as "credit fever," the desire to get all the best credit cards as quickly as possible and meanwhile throwing caution to the wind... so, I would only ask that instead of applying for another card, take a step back and look at all that you have accomplished!

Can you appreciate this? Can this be enough for now?

I apologize in advance if I sound like I'm preaching! It's late and I don't want to offend anyone, but I was really impressed with your cards and wondered why you would need to get more when you have so much already...

It's an issue I'm struggling with right now. I want Chase, I want AMEX Blue Cash, I want Discover, and I want them NOW!

(Last year, I wanted JCB and AMEX Gold charge card and convinced my dw to apply for these cards and make me an AU just so that I could get what I wanted... well, I got the cards, and am now thinking of closing both cards... jcb b/c I'm not using it as much as I thought I would, and AMEX Gold b/c of the $100+ annual fee)

So, where does that leave me...?

FYI, I was denied with a TU 742 FICO for the Chase Perfectcard.

The sole reason was too many new accounts.

I had 8 in the past six months and they wouldn't reconsider...said it was a bank policy and no exceptions could be made.

You don't have 8 new accounts so you should be fine I would guess.

    MisterX,

Thanks for the candid response. In retrospect I agree completely with everything you said. I believe I might be getting obsessive with applying for prime credit. The reason for this is mainly because a year ago I would be lucky if I could be approved for an "first premier bank" card, but now I managed to get myself a Bof A Platinum - 6300, Citi Plat - 4800, Citi Plat - 7200, a Bank One Signature - 7500 and a Amex Blue - 2000.

I think I'm going to just take your advice and stop applying for awhile (atleast until the end of the year)

I wish you the best as well,
    Sal

They told me they were only considering the past six months when looking at new accounts. Initially they said four months, then backtracked when I said they are all over four months old (they were 5).

yah basically the underwriter at fleet was like that. full of SH*T. I mean seriously. I kept digging him depeer into a hole...

Basically, they didn't feel your score and your portfolio would be profitable to them,so you were denied. That is the truth.

You want lies, you'll get them on paper in 7-12 days.

In the end the computer makes the decision, no human. Very rarely do humans get involved because that can be a breach of security (information theft, etc). imagine how many personal info's they store on file from apps per day..

one bad apple *employee* could steal millions with identity theft if they had access to such info.

The Chase underwriter even went as far to tell me that I had an excellent score (742) but there was nothing he could (read - would) do...he said it was not just about scores - that all those new accounts meant too much risk (even with 13+ yr history).

Hey, Sal, you're very welcome! I'm glad I was able to to be of some assistance! Reading my post again, yeah, I kind of went off on a rant, but it really sprang from my current experience-- what can I can tell you, it came from the heart!

I too wish you the best! IMHO, by waiting several months to apply for another prime card, you're only protecting-- and really strengthening-- the foundation that you've built up in the past.

You're using the same principle that banks use to make a hefty profit: interest charged over a period of time. Only you're investing in your credit report and letting it mature over time. In this instance, I think most people don't realize that that by doing nothing (not applying for more credit), you're really doing A LOT to improve your credit score and to make yourself more creditworthy-- a prime candidate for the best offers, rates, limits, etc!

There's only one way to go from here, and that's up, up, and away (like into the stratosphere)! In the meantime (and to make the time pass faster), it may console you to know that the payoff will be that you'll be able to get any credit card you want, and your FICO scores will hardly notice...

Being secure in that knowledge, my friend, is truly priceless! And best of all, you'll be the one calling the shots!

    MrX
    p.s. YMMV
