What is everyone's opinioin on the insurance companies. Which one would you say is the cheapest for insuring an auto? Also, say if they pulled an inquiry or not to insure you.
I've had Traveler's insurance for the last three years. I've shopped it around because it just renewed this month. Of course I didn't let anyone pull my credit during this process. Without letting anyone pull my credit I was unable to find another company with a rate anywhere near what Traveler's is giving me ($908 for 12 months). Some companies quoted me almost double. Three years ago, Traveler's did pull my credit. Since I'm in the process of getting a mortgage and my credit's been pulled four times this week alone by the mortgage lender I've been thinking about going back to the insurance companies that gave me the closest quotes and letting them pull a report. I doubt I'll do much better than Traveler's though.
Lordy... I get on a plane in 2 hours and I am still checking in on creditnet (I think I have a problem)... Anyhoo, I have been with Geico for a very long time. I pay $75 a month to insure 2 cars (1 full coverage on payments, the other paid off with minimum coverage). They have been good to me (and to date, they have not pulled a nasty inquiry) - I highly recommend.
You're not going to have one single company that's cheapest across the board. One might be cheaper if you live in one location, while another is cheaper just 4 miles down the road in another location. Rates are based (loosely) on claims for your geographical area. If a bunch of idiots drive and live in your town and make a ton of claims with one company, the rates will be higher in that locale. Allstate was awesome (rate-wise) in Madison Heights, but they weren't even close when it came to insuring after I moved to Waterford about 20+ miles away.
I just paid geico $240 to insure me for 6 months . I have 5 pick ups. Under $500 a year.Never seen the beat of it!
Dave, I have State Farm (Eileen Colbert Agent in Henderson) and have full coverage for slightly less than you pay with Travelers. If you are shoppping around, you may want to give her a call at 567-5001. Just a thought. Sean
Matty, because of your age, your rates are not going to be very good. Can't you get coverage through your parents policy?
I highly recommend Amica (www.amica.com). I am 22 and they charge me $2000/year for full coverage on 2 vehicles--a 2002 SUV and a 2001 sports car. I even had 1 prior accident where I was at fault. They do pull credit and my score was in the 500s at the time.
I have coverage through my parents policy right now. Its like 135 a month on a 95 sable w/ $500 deductible. I have to carry full coverage because of the auto loan. Kinda sucks. I just think i'm getting ripped, but it is likely due to my age. THat is w/o any tickets, good student discount, multi car, air bag discount, the works. We have american family in waterloo, iowa. Maybe I need to look around more.
