A friend of mine needs a checking account but she's got bad credit - like 490's.... anyone know of any banks who don't run credit checks in order to approve someone for a checking account?? Is that even possible any more?? She was turned down for checking by her credit union.

    Thanks,
    Ozzy.

wamu branches supposively only check for chexsystems if you show up in person.

if you have bad credit + chex your f***** pretty much. I can attest to that one.

I did get netbank though :)

I got TD Waterhouse bank. They didn't check Chex OR run my credit. I also have Farmer's Insurance Group Credit Union -- deal there is you have to work for Farmer's (which I did at the time... but quit) OR have a relative that does. They checked CHEX BUT didn't care if it was paid.

I would try Netbank, TD waterhouse, OR a local credit union - also check out

JUST ASK BEFORE YOU GIVE THEM THE $$$$$$$$

I would WALK with my money OUT THE DOOR if they said they HAD to PULL!!!

"IT'S JUST A CHECKING ACCOUNT, NOT A CREDIT CARD OR A LOAN"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, George. If you HAVE lots of money, I don't think they really bother with the credit reports and all that. However... if you're less than wealthy, they really don't want your business anyway, and I think the credit reports are an "out" for them.

I've been told about a few people who have more than $10,000,000 in the bank(s), stocks, 401k, that have poor credit because they let other people pay the bills...(OR NOT)...

If your first deposit was $1,000+ no problem...if it was $100...they are going to "PULL"???

It's possible if you are going to have your paycheck direct deposited with a MAJOR local company, they MAY not "PULL" even if you arn't going to deposit a bunch of money...

I got denied a wachovia account. I had 2 5K paychecks to deposit (drawn on wachovia commercial even).

NO THANK YOU WE DON'T WANT 10,000 because you have a chex bounced check.

    Screw em.

I opened a joint checking account with my husband about 6 months after filing Chap. 7. We got their $100 overdraft protection that they charge $22 if you use. After about a year it was $1000. I opened an account in my name only last October and got the $100 on it too. It was up to $500 in 3 months. They are very generous with OD protection but you pay big time if you use it.
I have heard that they will ignore old stuff if you are on chex systems too. Don't know how true that is.

Quesion - when you are on the Chex system or the other one (can't remember the name of it, sorry), are you ALWAYS on there, or just until you make good on the checks?

I've been trying in vain to help my friend with her credit to no avail. Disputed an old car loan - came back verified with all the lates. Then she was 2 months behind on her current car payment - that just doesn't help matters. Then she was saying how she can't get a checking account - I chimed in and said I'd check around online and see what I could find. Well I took the suggestions in this thread and talked to her about it. Then she tells me she has 3 outstanding checks - totalling about $400 from December. She said she's in both bad check systems....

I'm half thinking that if she hasn't made good on those checks, she can just be on the money order express for a while longer... I assume if you have bad outstanding checks that even if they overlooked poor credit, you'd still get declined for a checking account, right?

Absolutely. Unless you can find a bank that doesn't use ChexSystems.

I know for a fact that FSNB fort sill national bank will give you an account they do not use check systems and you get a visa check card if you have direct deposit.

Go to www.fsnb.com. you do not have to be in the military either. they will send you the informaiton thru the mail takes about 2 to 3 weeks for everthing to go thru...get starter checks and everything..they are good and I love them. I am in check systems as well so I know your pain.

Also recently got an account with BofA they only checked my credit score. 615 eqfax. 575 exp, not sure about TU was 500
