Can a person get a checking account after bankruptcy? ( chapter 7). I have a checking and savings account with citibank now, But i am moving to a small town about 400 miles away, and there is no citibank branch there. So my question is can i get a checking account or even a savings account? I am sure they run a credit check for a checking account, but what about a savings account? I have never had any problems before my bk but am unsure what to expect now. THANKS....

If you're moving to a small town, chances are one of the smaller "local" banks won't pull a CR to open a checking account.

As long as you have a clean Chexsystems report you should be OK. Yes, there ARE banks that will deny you based on the BK but there are still quite a few banks that won't.

Also, credit unions are always more flexible. If you can join one in your new town, I'd try with them first.

Better keep your citi checking untill you get another one.
You can always bank by mail with them.

    The END ************************* LB 59
