do you get points taken away everytime you check your own credit? If so how many?

or do you only get your credit dinged when other companies inquire on your credit?

    thanks

    Hi there,

It does not hurt to check your own credit report. It may however hurt if you initiate a credit pull through a creditor or lender.

Hurt = a couple of points

The best is myfico.com in terms of accuracy as to scores. The board has a link for the aforesaid website. Use it.

I've read this twice today where someone is asking if checking your credit takes points. Why do people ask that. If we just request our report why would that take points?

^ Because many people run around saying that you lose points whenever your credit report is pulled. Is this an Urban legend?
