I hope everyone remembers when the Chevron Credit card explosion happened on this board. Someone determined that Chevron would be an easy line of credit for a gas card. I received the Chevron card back in August of 2000. My initial limit was $300. A year later they raised it to $500. I have been with Chevron for the past 2 years and today I find out that they raised my limit to $1500. $1500 for a gas card, in which I use maybe 2-3 times a month. This should help my debt to income ratio slightly. I just want to give some hope to those who got in on the Chevron Credit Builders progam. Even though you may have started out with a $200-$300 limit, it will increase in time. Good Luck
They post on time and update my reports but I have been with them for three years and cant get off credit builder. I have had perfect payment status and pay the $80-$100 a month in full. Still the same $200 line.
Hi Just as a side note, I recently tried to get their card my eq.scores were about 587 nad they turned me down .... they said specifically I have an unpaid Cap one charge off from 10/99 they suggested I call back in about 90days and let that account age a bit more and re-apply I then might qualify for the credit builder. So I wait.... jamie
go to http://www.chevron.com click the 'credit card' link, pick the card you want and apply for it. they will probably pull from equifax. if you get declined, you may get an offer for the credit builder card in the mail along with your rejection letter. it will tell you to call them if you want to apply for the credit builder program. when you call they will ask you questions about your employment, and verify some things on your credit report. they seemed to only care about my income when deciding whether or not to give me a card. if they approve you, they'll send you another letter with your terms, to which you will need to respond with a $30.00 money order and your signature.
call them and give them your reference number, theyll tell you if they are extending the credit builder offer to you over the phone. I believe this is the number 801-743-2000 you will still have to wait for the letter and stuff though.
I was denied initialy with an unpaid cap one charge off from 11/2000. and a whole bunch of other bad stuff. score 567 eq. They offered the credit builder program to me in the denial letter.
Hi Congrats.. What I posted is what the rep told me when I called..But I decided to dispute the charge off on Eq and I PFB'd them tonight so we will see..I don't expect Cap1 to let it get deleted but hey timing is everything maybe if they pull a soft to reconsider I will get lucky....Sometimes I think its just a luck of the draw though..I really want to add another credit line soon..so hopefully they will have mercy on me I am really ready for a new chance at another good credit line....lol so send some good vibes this way will ya ?... Thanks Jamie
bigmon, Chevron's credit builder program was part of my transfer from the high security debtors prison to the medium security facility. Like all things in this prison it costs you something ($50 anual fee). They start you off with a a credit limit they think you are worthy of (usually $200) and review your account and credit history every year. At this time the parole board will decide whether to grant you release from the credit builder program and give you standard chevron credit card status. I have heard that all have not been released for good behavior. When I applied over the phone for the credit builder card (NUMBER PROVIDED IN DENIAL LETTER), the rep said they would give me specialized attention. ie phone calls reminding me to pay. (kind of like my subprime car loan people). when I called to check my balance a few days ago I was not allowed to go through the automated system. After the CSR gave me my balance, she gave me a lecture about paying on time and good credit. I APPRECIATED HER CONCERN FOR MY CREDIT WELL-BEING! I hope this helps.
The number I called was 877-854-9093. The letter said to call them within 15 days of receipt of the letter. I don't know if this is an invite thing or what . oh yeh call between 7-11 mountain time.
I just want to say that my Chevron cards have been LIFE-SAVERS to me over the past year! I originally applied for my first card in May, 2001 and was approved for a $600 limit. About 6 months later I closed it out because I only wanted to carry major credit cards (ie: Visa, MC, etc.). Well, it went 90 days since I closed it out so I had to reapply, and was "re-approved" for a $400 limit. I still have it, and I plan to keep it for a long time. What's really nice about it is that most Chevrons around here have sub sandwich shops in them - and one in Orange, CA has a full car spa and auto mechanic that I can charge to the Chevron card for oil changes, repairs, car washes, etc. It has been a great service to me to carry this card. I only wish they would offer a lower APR than 21.9% and/or offer a Visa or Mastercard upgrade for their excellent customers.
