i attempted to open an account at at bank. they denied me based upon my chexsystem report. i got a copy and there was one item on there: NSF ($25) on an account (that i am currently in good standing with) 4 years ago. is there a way to get this off or dispute it with chexsystem . i thought that one item didn't seem to be a reason to deny me.
Chexsystems must follow the FCRA; therefore, dispute entries just as you do with a credit bureau report.
well, it is mine...after the balance fell below the minimum (this is an old account, from high school), they deducted $5 every so often. eventually, it was -$25. should i contact the bank first, see if they'll goodwill it off?
How did that become an NSF? If the balance is low, and they charge a fee on the account, they usually just close it when it reaches $0. Did a check you wrote push it negative, after the fee?
i really don't think so. i never used to write checks on that account..i'll have to recheck my records. do negative items stay on the chexsystem reports for 7 years?
