Citi AAdvantage CL Reporting?

    Hi there,

I just started rebuilding my credit about nine months ago and was ecstatic to recently get the Citi AAdvantage gold card with a $5000 limit last month. When they reported to the CRAs the credit limit is reported as $0. Was curious as to why they are not reporting my limit and whether anyone else here has recently opened an account with them? Are they reporting your limit? I know Cap1 does not report limits as I have a card thru them but I thought Citi did. Can I call them and request they report it or can I request thru CRAs? I certainly have no intention of running it up just so there is knowledge of the limit for FICO score purposes. Thanks!

If I recall, this is one of the reasons many people switch away from the AA card. It plays heck with utilization. Have you called CITI to confirm it does not report? Have you activated the card already? If not, call them and ask them about the choices. It is easy to switch to another CITI card once you have that one.

Bella, thanks for your reply. I spoke with Customer Service and the guy said he didn't understand why they wouldn't report my CL as they are required to. He mentioned to wait until my next statement and see if the info on my CRs is updated since this was my first statement and was only for an interim period. So I will wait and see...In the meantime, can anyone tell me if they have this card and if they do report the CL so I know if I am wasting my time? Also, since I did activate my card already do you think I could still switch if I need to? Does anyone know if they will pull a hard if I request a different card? Thanks.

Yes, you can still switch cards with CITI, almost any time throughout the life of the card, assuming it is current.

If it's the Citi American Airlines World card it will not have a credit line reported. And yes you can switch the type of card you have with them without having to re-apply. Why not check into the Dividend (cash back type card) card unless you fly with American Airlines I'd go with one with no annual fee and get the cash back. JMHO

Most likely, the reason for CL not showing is the "No pre-set spending limit" feature; yes, there is a CL, but the true limit doesn't exist.

I think most "NPSSL" cards don't show the limit, because there isn't a hard limit.

I have the Citi AAdvantage Bronze CC. The reason is because there is no annual fee and they report my credit limit to the bureaus. I got the card a few months ago with a $9,000 CL and now it's at $12,000 after a CLI request. The only down side is you get 1 AA mile for every $2 spent. But then again, the card is free and it reports the CL. My wife has the AAdvantage Gold (black card) with no pre-set limit and it only reports her high balance.

Just keep in mind that NPSSL cards work best when paid in full each and every month due to higher apr's and most have an annual fee.

Another thing to note here on CCs such as these; you have to see how the card/account is "labeled" as to type. For example, AmEx (traditional) is defined as a "Travel & Entertainment" card (similar to how Diners Club & Carte Blanche were). These are the "pay in full each month cards", and generally have no "limit". Hence they do not usually report a "Credit Limit". They also tend to be more forgiving on minor "lates". So, you have to take the good with the bad.

Traditional "revolving" accountd (MC, Visa, etc.) have a preset limit, which is reported.

Both cards have their advantages, and disadvantages. If credit repair/management is a higher priority, then you have to factor these attributes into your decision when getting a CC.

You're correct about the higher fees and rates; these cards have "morphed" in the past few years. The fees never bothered me when my company was paying them! And I did like the points and perks!

"Hey what are your two's scores?"

My Equifax FICO at the time was about 630. The big thing was less than 25% utilization on existing credit. I was shocked with the $9000 CL considering the only other cards I had at the time were subprimes, gas, Target, Bloomies, BOA Secured ($500) and HSBC CC with a $1250 CL.

Does anyone know what effect switching cards within Citibank (without a hard inquiry) will have on my credit report and score? Since this is a new account I am not so concerned with losing history but I am curious if they will close out the Aadvantage account trade line and open a new trade line...if so, will this have a negative impact on my score, having an account opened and closed within a month? Do they switch it over, if possible?

sorry to bring this back from the dead, but my AAdvantage cards not reporting are causing a lot of trouble with my utilization. Someone on another forum in another thread suggested sending a dispute with copies of your statement to the CRA's and requesting they report the credit limit.

    Has anyone tried this?

I realize that, which is why I apologized for bringing up an old thread. But I am having the same issue, and it is easier to bring up a thread where it was already explained and discussed.

CRAs will not update based on something you send them. They report what is sent to them by the creditor.

Is this a "no preset limit" card where you can go over the credit limit without incurring a fee? If so, that's why they don't report the limit.

I don't know if this still works or not, but one way to get the limit reported was to buy something up almost to the limit, then return it after the billing cycle.
