Have a citibank checking account. I just saw on the website for the checking accounts that I can upgrade my debit card to a citi aadvantage debit card. their are two plans for the card you can get the basic card for a $25 annual fee. with that you get 2,000 bonus miles and earn 1 mile for every two dollars you spend on the debit card. the other is the premium plan you get 4,000 bonus miles, a $65 annual fee and earn 1 mile for every dollar you spend. I selectd to upgrade my debit card to the basic plan. I'm wondering if that was really a good idea or not has anyone heard of any other banks offering frequent flyer miles for debit card purchases? and if so do they have any annual fees on those cards?
Sounds like a good deal if you like using your debit card. I put everything on AmEx green or I would do it. And I have so many accounts it's getting silly.
Compubank used to offer a similar program before being bought out by Netbank (the worst bank ever). However, I believe the company has since gone into bankruptcy. I think it was called ClickFree. It sounds interesting to me, but like breeze, I have enough banking accounts. I also like having the access to a brick building when needed. Mike G.
BofA too Bank of America has gotten into the game as well www.bofa.com/checkcard Alaska Airlines Visa® Check Card America West FlightFund® Visa® Check Card US Airways Dividend Miles® Visa® Check Card Annual fee on each of the airline cards is $30.
Re: BofA too I'm still a firm believer in CREDIT (or CHARGE) cards vs. DEBIT cards. CREDIT?CHARGE cards give you some limited protections, and to be very honest, you haven't used "your" money until you've paid it. DEBIT cards, by contrast, take your money, immediately, and give you less protection. I have a debit card on both of my checking accounts, and I use them sparingly - mainly if I'm at a merchant and want cash back. Both accounts have lines of credit attached, so I don't have to worry about authorizations holding funds and causing bounced checks. LIke the previous poster, I use Amex for as much as I can (except Shell, Target, or Macy's purchases, of course!). Points, protection, peace of mind. Good luck, MJ
Re: BofA too in the cardholder agreement for the Citi AAdvantage debit card with the mastercard logo. it states that you are protected from unauthorized charges just like you are for a credit card. and on mastercards webiste it also states there $0 liability policy applies to mastercard debit cards as well as credit cards. anyway i'm stuck with using a debit card for now. I'm even being turned down for secured credit cards.
Re: BofA too didnt know there were so many reward debit cards...could always link them up to c2it...no cash advance charges on a debit card.
Here's an article that talks about the U.S. Bank, Charter One & Chase frequent flyer debit cards. http://www.bankrate.com/brm/news/cc/20010720a.asp?prodtype=cc
