Here's my situation.. I tried the BDD, but instead I only ended up getting the gold one with a limit of 8k. I also received 2 rejection letters of saying I applied within 30 days.. one was for the gold, one for the silver. I applied twice for both trying to get approved for 4 cards - however, it looks like the silver did not go through.

Now, my question is what's the purpose of the BDD? Is it to get a big enough balance to open a platinum? What should I do now? Should I try converting the goldAA and apply for the silver and gold again next month and whatever I get for those, transfer those to the platinum?

The purpose of the BDD was for consumers who could not apply and be approved for the platinum select card right off the bat. Consumers would apply for the silver AA, then within 10 minutes, apply for the gold AA; benefits: it would only cost you 1 inquiry, and then you could call Citi up, and combine them, and covert them to platinum select.

However it seems that Citi caught on to what consumers were doing, and closed the back door double down. I think it happen about 4 weeks ago.

So what are my options?? Should I apply for the AA Silver next month and try combining that with my Citi Gold (8K) ?? Or can I try converting the gold AA to Platinum select now and just try doing both again next month?? Suggestions?

I do not have a Citi card so I'm not sure if this is possible, however, one option I would suggest is: callin Citibank and asking them if you can convert your card to platinum select. I'm not sure if you need an x amount of credit line(s) before you can though. Or a second option if this is not possible/allowed, would be: Citibank like most banks make you wait approx. 30-45 days before applying for another card, so wait out the timeframe, then apply for the AA silver, and when you get it, combine and convert.

If you don't fly on AMERICAN AIRLINES very much, or NEVER...trade for PLATINUM SELECT, or PLATINUM SELECT DIVIDEND...

Do it again? That is for you to say...do you NEED more credit line? You WON'T get any more for 6 months on the PLATINUM SELECT card, unless you do apply for AAGOLD or AASILVER again at a later date and combine.

What's the diff. between Plat Select and Plat Dividend?

I thought people were doing the 'combo' thing because there was some minimum for the Platinum Select card? Is this not correct? Was it just for a higher limit then with just 1 inquiry?

    DIVIDEND gives cash back.

So you would say the dividend is better? Pros/Cons of the two?

the plain plat select is the lowest APR card they offer. Dividend carries higher APR

I think that the Did Plat is much better than Plat Select. You get 1% cash back and a better interest rate.

Btw. Sam... 5.9 is not a "sucky BT rate"!.
