Hello folks.. just wondering if there might be a pattern or norm for credit limit raises with citi bank.

His: opened June 01 orginal CL $3500, raised to $5200 March of 02.. for purpose of BT another raise to $6400 in Aug of 02.. I keep checking on the website..still the forms to fill out.

Mine: opened Dec of 01, $2500 one CL raise in October of 02 to $3500

Oh.. balances on both account ZERO.

So, you cannot wait to get deeper in debt?

Maybe focusing on paying off the balance would be a good idea, and then you wouldn't need a CL increase?

Of course, I'm sure there will be plenty of responses saying that I'm cruel and inhuman for suggesting that carrying a higher balance is a bad thing...

No you are just a jerk. If you had read the complete post you would have seen the balance on both cards is zero

Maybe it's just the manner in which you talk down to people.

It isn't cruel or inhumane to suggest that carrying a high balance is a bad thing. I think the sarcastic, confrontational manner in which you do it leaves something to be desired. It makes whatever point you intended to make lost because people can't get over the fact that your actions are akin to those of a rabid animal.

As LKH pointed out, she doesn't have a balance...so before you attack, make sure you have the right target....

To answer the original question regarding Citi CL increases...could you please post your scores. It is hard to say what is going on without knowing more....Citi takes into consideration any number of things including your credit report, income and account history...

Try this...I have card XXXX that I need to pay off...if I do a BT it is almost paid off but I just need $1,800 more (name your price) to PAY IT IN FULL...

No inquiry is very important part of the equation...they do 1-3 "AR'S" every month...SO THEY DON'T MEED A "HARD"

While you are at it...ASK FOR A BT RATE LIKE 0.00% or 1.99% or even 3.99%

You can always pay it off the next month a little bit of interest will be worth it...

    YMMV

I got a $10,000 CL raise, and I was told that I have to *ask* every 6 month, and that they hardly ever do it automatically (that's according to the rep I spoke to).

They pulled a hard inquiry, and verified income by having me send a pay stub.

That's not true - the rep you spoke to was misinformed or being a jerk (like the dude above).

Citi likes for you to use the card a lot - if you use it a lot, even if you pay it off every month, you will get auto-increases. I went from $4,000 ot $11,600 in 1 year, no inquiries, never asked for it - always the automatic "congratulations!" on the screen.

Some CC co's will give you deals and offers if you don't use the card - citi gives you goodies if you use it a lot - they ignore you if you don't use it.

THEY DON'T NEED A "HARD" THEY DO 1-3 "AR'S" EVERY MONTH!!!

They just do a "HARD" because they CAN!!!! AND YOU LET THEM!!!

Cruel, and inhuman? Nope. Clueless moron? Definitely.

Perhaps you could start by explaining how much she needs to pay the credit card company to pay off her enormous $0 "debt".

    What balance?

Better to keep silent and be thought a fool, than to speak, and prove yourself one.

I know I've read on here of people getting auto increases, and I really didn't totally believe the rep when she said that "not even people who pay off their accounts every month get auto increases". I do realize that reps would tell people anything so they don't seem like they don't know their jobs.

Anyway, I wasn't expecting any auto increases because I really didn't use the card that much (opted for my lower rate cards). I just wanted the higher limit to help the limit to usage ratio on my report.

Well, I've had my citi card for exactly 6 months now, and I have not seen a single AR from them. I think they pull ARs at random for random people. So maybe your 3 ARs a month are an exception rather than the rule

rakt, use the card - just pay it off every month. They don't care about that. Get the limit where you want it, and then ask for APR decrease - there are numbers to use to get better answers than the regular reps give you.

If you care that much, LOL. Citi will be good to you if you just use the card.

I use it from time to time for small puchases. From what I've heard on here, citi likes to have their customers keep a balance... so I usually keep a small balance on it.

It is 1, 2, or all 3 it is totally RANDOM...(EQUIFAX, EXPERIAN, TRANS UNION)

BUT I don't think I have missed any one month were they did NOT do even ONE!!!

    BUT I USE THE CARD...

My ultimate goal is to have no more than 3 or 4 cards, so I'm in the process of figuring out which cards will be best for me in the long run. Now that I have a decent limit on citi, I think it'll be one of the ones I end up keeping.
