Look like a good idea...I can't get it though...THEY HATE ME!!! They possibly would let me trade my regular PLATINUM SELECT for it...but they would probably find some reason to REFUSE!!!
The rebate is good, the concept is even better, but... Is there someone out there who will actually keep this card and use it EXCLUSIVELY for the entire term of their 10, 15 or 30 year mortgage? That's the only way I can see anyone getting the FULL & MAXIMUM BENEFITS of this card.
The rebate won't help too much for paying off the mortgage and I won't rather to have cash rebate or retail reward card. Ron.
The rebate won't hit a dent on the interest of the mortgage. It is not practical card to earn rebates towrds mortgage. I wonder anyone would apply for the card. Ron.
Re: Re: Citi Home Rebate Platinum!!!!!!!!!! WRONG...it is reducing the PRINCIPAL...so you are losing MONTHS or YEARS off the mortgage...HENCE LOSING INTEREST ON THE BACK END The benefit would be MINIMAL for most people...YOU WOULD HAVE TO BE A "BIG" SPENDER...MORE THAN $100-$200/MONTH...TRY LIKE $1,000+ PER MONTH TO MAKE IT WORTH YOUR TIME But on the other-hand...if you lose 4 or 5 months on the "END" it would be nice...I GUESS. I THINK I WILL STICK WITH MILES
Re: Re: Citi Home Rebate Platinum!!!!!!!!!! You would probably still be better off to have the cash rebate--IF you would invest it. Paying off your mortgage is not necessarily a good thing. Mortgage interest is deductible. I would never pay off a mortgage early and have my money tied up in my house where I can't get to it. Take the equivalent amount of money, invest it, and over 15 to 30 years, you'll come out ahead. Mortgage rates are low right now. Over time, the market averages 10%. Most of us are paying below 6%, tax deductible takes the effective rate even lower, plus your money is now in your house where you can't necessarily get it if you lose your job, have medical bills, etc. If you've invested "outside," you'll have enough money to pay the mortgage and other bills during those bad times.
