I recently applied for a Citi Premeir Pass Elite Card and was denied for the reason.. "Too few satisfactory credit references were recorded on your credit bureau report" Unfortunately.. this statement is accurate, but it is only because I really don't and have luckily never needed credit lines or loans. I only have two accounts on my Credit Report Wells Fargo Platinum Card with credit line of $3200 Est: 05/2006 Chase Platinum Card with credit line of $3500 Est: 01/2009 I have no negative marks on my report and my scores range from 750 - 790 To be honest, I don't need the card or any additional credit lines, but I travel a lot US and internationally, so I thought a travel card could be a good idea. Should I go for reconsideration or due to my lack of credit references, would it be pointless? If so should I call or use Planet Feedback. I don't really want to waste another hard pull if they choose that route. Is there a better travel card out there? I don't live near a major airport so many of my US flight cost well over $400 to fly out near home, so the complementary companion passes would be very useful. Thanks for the advise.
Do you use the cards you have? While Dumb Bob doesn't know how they decide things, it would seem like proving you can borrow and repay would be of benefit. If you don't use the credit that you have, why do you need more, someone might wonder.
Yes.. I use then because they give me a little extra cash back than a debit card, but I don't think I have ever used more than 5 K with them in a month and I have always paid them in full.
Thanks apexcrsrv I got a pre approval last month for a US Bank Card, maybe Ill try that. About chase.. Do they often give multiple cards.. I just got my first chase card 6 months ago? Platinum Rewards. Should I get another or just stick with the US Bank. Also I was informed on another board that the Citi Shell Mastercard has fewer criteria and I might be able to get that and call and upgrade the card to the Premier Pass or Elite? What do you think about that? Possible or impossible because of my lack of credit references? Are there any other good cards or companies I might be a good candidate for? Thanks
Since you travel internationally, you may want to get a Capital One card. They still don't charge any currency conversion fees, so it's the only card I used when traveling. We used to review CapOne cards on our site, but they have recently cut back on their online advertising and asked us not to include reviews of their cards until further notice. Anyway, the Capital One No Hassles Miles Card may be a good one for you.
Thanks Joshua I was just reading about their no currency conversion the other day. I am kinda scared to apply for one though due to only having two accounts in my credit report. All of capital ones lower interest and no annual fee cards say you need excellent credit and their criteria on their website says atleast 1 card with minimal $5000 credit limit and 1 card for a minimum of 3 years.. I only have 2 cards both with about 3500 limits and the oldest is just a couple months shy of being open for 3 years. I don't really want to waste another hard pull and get denied. = ) any suggestions?
You have a good enough credit score, but you are on the cusp in terms of length of credit history. It's tough to say whether or not you would get approved. If you received a pre-approval from US Bank already, it might be best to take that route and try to get a card that offers miles.
One more thing is that the offer just expired.. But when I log in and enter my code it still says I have the offer pending. Is it still a good bet or should I just wait for the next.. haha Thanks for all of your advise.
Haha this is funny. I just received a letter from US Bank.. Who also says... "We regret we are unable to approve your application at this time dues to an insufficient number of satisfactorily rated credit references." Well that was a waste of two hard pulls. I cant really see how to obtain a sufficient number of satisfactorily rated credit references if I cant even get approved on pre-approvals because I only have two credit references in my credit report, but yet have never had any negative marks and have a credit score of 750-790 depending on the company. Anyone have any ideas?
hmm thats tough. You should really look more into it online, I am sure theres plenty of resources out there to get help in your situation
Same Issue Just wanted you to know that I am in the same boat. My scores are in the mid to high 700's also and I only have one cc w/ $13000 limit. I usually will charge about a $1000-$2000 a month on the card and pay it off right away. I can't even get approved for a Target card. I was told that I do not have enough open accounts. Everything I have read leads me to believe there is no hope. Not sure what to do at this point. Just felt you should know that you are not alone.
You have a credit score that is adequate, but your credit history is only beginning. It's difficult to predict if you'd be accepted. It might be wisest to follow that path and attempt to obtain a card that offers miles if you have already received a pre-approval from US Bank.
