Citi has finally responded to my request for validation (been 60+ days). Here is what is says: This letter is in response to your recent communications. Our attempts to contact you by phone have been unsuccessful. Please contact me at the number provided as soon as possible. ###-#### If you are unable to contact us, please write us a letter and provide us with a current phone number in which we may contact you. That's it. It wasn't even signed. Should I call them? If I do and they try to collect the debt, will they be in violation (since they're a creditor not a CA)? I'm clueless on how to respond to this....please help.
Just put it in WRITING...60 days and nothing except they want you to call??? Ask them if they want to wire the $1,000/violation to your checking account, or will they mail you a check??? SEND CERTIFIED R/R.
Original creditors, collecting their own debts, unless they are using a different name to collect, are not subject to the FDCPA. So, the answer is no, it is not a violation. Do what George said.
