So I get my replacement card today and call to activate it. They ask me for my password. I ask if he can ask anything else to verify me and he says he needs the password and asks if I forgot it. I just ask again if he can verify anything else. He says no and I say okay I'll call back. The reason I couldn't let him know was because there were people in the room and I didn't want to say the password or alert them that I had a password. I realized too late when I called that I wasn't alone in the room, or else I would have called later. So I call back and my account was flagged! After calling twice and letting them know what happened (the rep was surprised that there was a password security issue since it's not like a common word and I knew it right off the bat) my account is now unflagged. I apologized for the inconvenience. If you call your bank and you forgot or don't want to give your password, they can ask for a bunch of other stuff to verify you! Seems security is really tight. I'll try to be good from now on I didn't realize it was give your password or forget it. It does help me feel better.
If you want to know about IDIOT SECURITY...try DISCOVERCARD SECURITY!!! I did a BT...they called the next day and asked every single question that they asked for the BT...then she started asking very UNACCEPTABLE QUESTIONS... Do you pay in full or revolve...YES/YES What is your work #...XXX-XXX-XXXX What is your work address...I DON'T HAVE A CLUE...I HAVE NEVER WROTE A LETTER TO MYSELF AT WORK...I WORK 5-7 DAYS A WEEK...WHY WOULD I WRITE MYSELF A LETTER AT WORK??? What was the "EXACT" amount you BT'D...I DON'T REMEMBER...I DON'T EVEN KNOW THAT I HAD FOR BREAKFAST YESTERDAY!!! I THINK IT WAS LIKE $5,318.12 OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT... To what company...CITIBANK IS THIS GOING ANY FURTHER??? BECAUSE IF YOU ASK ONE MORE QUESTION...I'M CLOSING THE ACCOUNT ON MY NEXT CALL!!! She said HAVE A NICE DAY...I COULDN'T EVEN GET IN~~GET A LIFE...SHE HUNG UP ON ME!!! I complained all over the place I could with DISCOVERCARD...and paid off the BT even before it "HIT" the account...I have used it for <$200 in purchases in the last 6 months and it stays in the SOCK DRAWER!!! I will take it out about NOVEMBER and use it for a tank of gas or groceries... (didn't want to have you fall asleep with all the other questions)
You can choose a password. They do ask me for the password or my mother's maiden name when I call. They almost choke on "maiden name" trying to figure out how my password could be a maiden name
yah use your mothers maiden name or whatever you use for the rest of the credit cards. i'm sure by the time the identity thieves figure that out and your ssn/bday/address/phone #, you've got no chance in hell i mean really, mother's maiden name , i don't use it but i use something very similar on all my cards. You do kinda sound like a mailbox stealer if you can't remember what you put down on the apps. thats the #1 way of fraud, stealing mail out of the box, and then activating the card. So there are two categories: 1. People that remember 2. Evil mailbox stealers. Unfortunately its black and white for their security which is top notch. My account gets locked down if i spend more than $6000/day on it. It just takes a call to explain my purchases and they open it back up. good security is a good thing, means we pay less APR due to fraud. (in theory)
