Hi All, I got my statement yesterday in email, and as usual, I went to pay online using Click to Pay. It wouldnt let me. All of a sudden it shows no payment due and a balance and available credit that don't match. I call CS and they tell me that my Visa is being converted to a MasterCard. I was sent no letter informing me of the change. According to CS there are no change in terms. It is a Platinum Card, and I have always made ontime payments. Anybody else heard of this? Thanks
That I don't know...perhaps a better deal with Mastercard versus Visa in terms of fees and so on. I'm not really sure how those things work...
I got a " new card " letter as well. Did yours say something like ".....in order to provide you a new one that offers you more - everything from greater benefits to enhanced services."
I just checked my online account access, and mine as indeed changed to a mastercard (the little picture changes when going from my old account number to the new one). Yeah, this wouldn't be the first time I've had a card converted from Visa to MC, or vise versa. MC and Visa want Citi's business really bad, and Citi wants to make more money.......pretty easy to figure it out from there! I'm sure the "greater benefits and enhanced services" is a bunch of bull.
They are DUMPING VISA for M/C... ALL ADVERTISING IS FOR M/C... I think BoA did the same thing except they have almost all VISA...(probably soon ALL VISA)
Wow! Saturday Letter....Today New Card. They don't waste any time. Called, activated. They tried to get me to balance transfer @ 5.9% and to sign up for credit protection. YEAH RIGHT!
What's the corporate relationship between Bank of America and VISA these days? I'm asking because, as the old folks like me remember, BofA originated VISA as BankAmericard way back in the day. Doc P.S. Some pics of BankAmericard and early VISA in my credit card museum here (and then click "Photos" in left column), cough -- do I need a life?
Hi All - thanks for the help. I called Citibank again today and they weren't much help. I wonder how this conversion will effect my credit report as I have had this card for five years. I don't get paper statements, and I never got a notice in the mail about this change. I am not that upset about the change, but wish I would have gotten the note. I suppose I will need to wait for the new card to arrive. Again, thanks....let me know if anyone has any updated info on this type of thing
Re: Re: Citibank Converting my Visa You shouldn't lose any history. They just substitute the new account number for the old account number, but the rest of the trade remains the same.
Re: Re: Citibank Converting my Visa PsychDoc, Are you ever bringing back memories!! I had a BankAmericard, issued by First & Merchants, who became Sovran, who became NationsBank, who became Bank of America. I'm not going to admit here how many of those others I had!! I may check around and see if I have any old ones you can add. My first credit cards were Woolco and Phillips 66. I had some department store cards that were small and metal, look like they're similar to the Kresge's. Another age test--I wonder how many people have heard of Kresge and Woolco? I had two accounts with BofA, both were Visas. Now I only have the Dividend Miles account, it's still a Visa. I just went over and checked their website. Not a MasterCard in sight. Everything is Visa, including gift cards and a Teen Visa. Some of the gift cards look pretty cool! I didn't even know they had them. I see a racing one, I have a friend who is a big NASCAR fan. Maybe I just found his next gift!!
I just upgraded my Citi and it stayed a Visa. If they were dumping all Visa like someone said, you'd think they'd take this opportunity to make it an MC. I vaugely remember this getting circuated last year as well!? 0
Hey Marci, You were wondering about the 7.99% fixed on my quantum. Well, they shocked me. I was trying to convert to World Points and keep my interest rate. No luck. Basically told them I was going to sock drawer it becuase I will use my AmEx Blue for it's points and some other cards I have at 7.99% fixed. Next thing, she said she could do 7.99% fixed for me. FYI, months ago, I tried to get my interest reduced on that same card and was told no. Go figure. I just wish I could get citibank to reduce my interest rate to yours!!!! Was completely unsuccessful last time. How did you do it???
Re: Re: Citibank Converting my Visa Thanks. So was this a Platinum Plus that you were trying to convert to Quantum World Points, or was this a Quantum "basic" that you were trying to convert to Quantum World Points? I guess I'm trying to figure out how in the world you got the 7.9% on any MBNA card in the first place! This is very impressive. I called asking for this, and they said I had to wait 6 months in between rate adjustments (I had just had one in December). I started at P + 7.9 last year and kept calling retention until I got down to P + 2.49 (what is that 4.25 + 2. 49 = 6.74). oops, I just realized that my sig is wrong!!!!! Sorry! The ride may be over for all the companies. I see a trend of them jacking rates. Thanks for the reply!
