i have coming up a judgment on the pleadings in a civil case between myself and citibank. i didn't dispute the debt in my answer to their complaint. i want to pay the debt but it will take time. what will happen after the judgment which will surely go against me and do i need to be present in court for the judgment?
If Citi is awarded a default judgment against you, then a judgment will be placed on your credit reports and Citi will be granted a court order that legally allows them to go after certain assets that you may have. I believe the rules change from state to state on what they can actually go after, so you should look into that. Anyway, you certainly don't have to be in court to get a default judgment awarded against you, but this may be a good time to talk to a qualified lawyer about your options if you want to fight it. If you have some money and want to pay the debt, why not try to negotiate a payment plan before this gets taken to court?
