So I applied for a Citibank checking account to take advantage of their free $75 with a $1500.00 deposit offer. I had a BK 7 discharged in October 2003. Guess what? Yep, they declined me. I haven't gotten the letter yet, but I did call since I noticed on PG that they pulled an EQ CR. WTF? I had set up an auto deposit of $3000.00. Why wouldn't they want my money? It can't be the chex systems, I have never written a bad check in my life.

I already have a credit union account, but I was wanting to set up a couple more accounts. Will Bank of America decline me also?

    Thanks

BANKS HAVE TOO MUCH MONEY...so they can pick and choose who to take money from!!!

That sounds really rediculous - I really cant see why they would care if you filed BK, all you were requesting was a checking account.

Did it have any kind of overdraft protection attached?

Probably. They will pull what they call a "snapshot" of your credit report. What that means is they are just looking at the scores. If your scores are in the 500's you will probably be denied.

No. This was basic, EZ checking.

I guess my money wasn't green enough.

After disputing most of the negative items on my reports, I have actually crawled above the 600 level.

    Still, I was denied.

You may want to see if your job is involved with CITIBANK at work... or if you are taking some classes at a college, that can help too.. my credit was awful a few years back and i couldn't open bank accounts... i found out about citibank's student accounts and opened one easily, despite credit issues. they didn't give me overdraft though...

then, later on, i was able to extend some benefits (like NO FEES) with citibank at work... i also referred a friend with bad credit and since he worked with me, he was able to open an account because of their affiliation with the job...
