Hello all, Many of you may recall my ongoings with Citibank over my 2nd application. I originally was told I would be approved upon employment verification. I called the next day and was told I was declined. Thus, the match began. First, I was told I was declined because I had no bank information. That was an easy backhand return when I stated that I had 2 checking, 2 savings and a money market account. (love-15) Next, the served up a wicked hook, by stating that I have too high credit balances. Reaching to full extension, I returned by stating that my balances were currently at zero (love-30). The next day, the served up a wicked Ivansivic serve when they stated that any previous charge-offs with Citibank (which I have) are automatically declined. Tripping over my feet, I was able to hit a weak returned that hit the net and dropped on their side by asking why my first application was approved if this was so (love-40). Then, we began a great ground game hitting back and forth. I called day after day after day asking to speak with a supervisor. A supervisor was never available. Ground stroke after ground stroke we hit at each other. Today I called again asked to speak with a supervisor and was put on hold. The rep came back and said no supervisor was available but I had been approved for the card. GAME, SET, MATCH!!!!!! Dont give up everyone. Keep calling and state your case. (301) 733-5501. Hey, how long did you all wait before combining to the Platinum Select Card. Mike G.
Thanks Hope and MP! I have a combined balance of $4500. Is that enough for the Plat. Select card. I thought I read on a thread somewhere that they want $5000, but others have been able to switch for less. Mike G.
I would like a chance at a Citibank card. But I do have some bad credit. Let's take Equifax. 13 inquiries (12 since June 2001) $85 judgement 1998 $135 medical collection I think 1996 or 98 Capital One paid charge off (I was AU) 1998 $28 library fine early 1999 $362 medical collection (from 1996 when I was 17!) I now have three student loans there in good standing, and my Target card ($200 CL) and Sterling ($500 CL) aren't showing. Am I being ridiculous hoping for a chance? obviously I'm not gonna call tomorrow begging for the card. My dispute results should be here in a week or so. My current Equifax score is 608. Steph
Mike, Congrats!! I love it, and the whole story as you told it, LOL. I've done this twice with different creditors because I simply won't accept a hard inquiry. It has worked both times. Most people just say "Oh well, and leave it at that." Cypri did it, too, after a little nudging she was successful as well. I highly recommend the denial challenge, besides...it's fun* when you win. Mist *unless you are George---(sorry George!)
Author_22 don't waste your time applying. The platinum select product line requires a minimum credit line of $1000. My GF got the AA with $1k limit after 7 or 8 months of credit. They upgraded her immediately. If you plan to carry balances this is the best card. I've gotten them down to prime+0.9% on my platinum select card. That is an excellent rate in my book.
What inquiry George, just use your referral number. I do believe in the necessity of having a customer representative who wants to help you. During my week of phone calls, I had 2 representatives that were not helpful. One even took an attitude in reference to my inquiries and credit balance until I told her of her mistake. The other tried to talk down to me about my charge off- "We're you unaware you have 2 charge off with us when you applied for the card." Interesting though, as Saar has suggested, she didnt even want to tell me anything at first. She kept saying I'll receive a letter so I kept saying let me talk to a supervisor. Thus, she leaped up on her high horse. Anyway, keep calling and hang up if the representative is an idiot. Call back and try try again. Mike G.
I forgot to mention that I did send off a complaint via planetfeedback on Friday I believe, but have not had any response. Maybe it helped, since my approval came after I sent the complaint. In my complaint I stated that it seemed they were more interested in searching for a reason to decline instead of trying to work towards a common ground. I also stated the timeline of events. Mike G.
Re: author Author wrote "Capital One paid charge off (I was AU) 1998" Dispute this as "not my account" authorized users enjoy the benefit of good history, when things go bad they can have the account removed from the rap sheet.
