I was contacted by the 'office of the president' at citibank, and asked to send them a copy of my credit report 'so they could substantiate which dates I was late'. Apparently they bought out the company that had my credit card originally and they don't have record of these dates? (This makes no sense to me) They said that I could go ahead and white out everything else that I didn't want to share with them, they just wanted to know when I was late. This whole thing seems like a trick to me - perhaps they have no record of my late payments, so they want to build evidence of them? Should I send the information they asked for, or should I dispute that I was never late?
I am no expert but I would dispute it as not mine and see what happens. If they have no records of it then they can not do much. Not your fault they can not keep up their records. I had a hard time using "not my account" but considering they give you so few choices what else can you do... Only takes 30 days.
I would dispute it through the Credit Reporting Agencies, before you send that out. Get a print out of your file from Equifax, and put a dispute through them. Have Citibank, verify. If they cant verify, from what it sounds like. The CRA should drop it off. (Others can probably give better info) But thats what im thinking. Good luck.
I guess that's what I'll do. I just gotta wait for this last dispute to finish up... about 3 weeks left on it
i'd send the CRA the letter stating that citibank can't find the lates..that is proof that you werent late. Providian did a similar thing to me, I PFB'd requesting they remove some lates, they said 'we can't find your account', i sent that letter to EXP and it got deleted, all based on that letter from Providian. i'd rather have the entire thing deleted than have the lates, so it worked out well for me. this is because it was only a few years old and had several lates, also a very low CL listed on it.
