Citibank -- I can't believe it!

Last week when I was approved for Platinum Select, I read some threads here that said I should apply for an AAdvantage card as well. I couldn't find the right link at first and I accidentally applied for the AAdvantage World card. I then found the right link and applied for the AAdantage Gold card.

I figured both were denials. BUT! I got three envelopes from Citibank today. One contained my BT check for $4,000 along with a letter advising me to deposit it right away because the funds had already been billed to my card account. I also got a letter telling me they could not process my application for the World card because I had already submitted two applications in a 60 day period.

The third envelope contained a letter welcoming me to Citi Gold AAdvantage MasterCard membership!

That's approvals for three prime cards in less than one week. (including the two Citi cards and the Amex Green.) I don't count my Target Visa approval as prime because although I was approved for a $6,000 limit, the APR was at 18.9%.

What an amazing week this has been.

Now -- should I keep the Gold AAdvantage card or call to combine?

    Congrats, Dave!!
I wish I had your luck...
Just got my reasons for denial on Silver AAdvantage.

    1. Annual income was too low (~30K)

    2. Not enough credit references?

SD, don't worry time can heal this denial.

I bk-13 on Citibank so my chances of getting any Citibank product is next to nil even when the bk is off my CR.

I figured I'd never get Citibank, because I had a chargeoff from them from 1996. Lexington disputed the tradelines off my reports from Citibank and from the collection agency.

DaveLV- I thought once you make the Citibank blacklist that's that.

I thought so too... but I guess not. I'm not going to argue with them. :)

The collection agency tradeline for my Citibank was removed only three weeks ago. That's when I decided to apply again. I applied in March or April and was denied, but the denial letter never said anything about past accounts. So, I either slipped through the cracks or they do give second chances.

I was still a bit worried they might catch me, but since the $4,000 BT check came in the mail today, I guess it's a done deal!

Then you are definitely off their blacklist, or by some miracle, never got on. Good for you!

Marci, my approval for the Platinum Select last Friday was instant on-line. For the Gold AAdvantage I got the 7-10 day message.

Interesting. Did you get an instant denial on the computer and then actively pursue reconsideration or did they just tell you "7-10 days" and then someone manually approved you to your surprise?

(One way to tell is to see when they pulled the credit report on you. If it is the day of the application, then you're off their blacklist, which bodes hope for the rest of us. If it was later than the day you applied, then you may still be on it, but someone took it upon themselves to manually review it and approve you.)

I'd like to apply for another Citi card, but having a paid Citi charge-off from 1997, I don't feel like asking for manual reconsideration every time I decide to apply. I'd love to get off the blacklist so that I'd actually get an instant approval from them.

    Thanks and congratulations,

You know, I'm looking at the BT check they sent me, and oddly enough, it's drawn on Chase Manhattan Bank. Is there a connection between Citibank and Chase?

    Re: SD and Citibank

Before this last round of approvals, I had:

Providian Gold Visa: My oldest open account. Credit line of $9,149, 16.9% APR. Open for three years, five months.

Providian Gold MasterCard: CL $3,480 18.9% APR. Grace period. Open for one year, five months.

Capital One MasterCard: CL $1,050, Variable APR (right now 13.64%). Open for one year, eight months.

Household Bank MasterCard: CL $1,000 15.9% APR. Open for one year, eight months.

Orchard Bank MasterCard: CL $750, 15.9% APR. Open for one year, six months.

NextCard Semi-secured Visa: CL $640, deposit of $500. 21.9% APR. Open for eight months. I'd LOVE to get rid of this now, but will wait until it's been open for a full year before I do. I just tried to get the terms improved through planetfeedback last week, and they told me basically to get lost.

WalMart Card: CL $300 Open for eight months.

AmeriCredit auto loan: Open for 36 months. Just got them to update to no late pays on Experian, but was deleted on TU and EQ. 12 months to go on the loan.

Associates Shell Card: CL $250. Open for eight months but does not report. Maybe this could have helped me with Citibank??? I charge about $100 a month in gas and then pay in full.

TU Score 618, CreditExpert Experian score 666 (now 658 with inquiries added), Equifax FICO score 613.

I have a repo from Ford Motor Credit (which is not true but it's been a bitch to try to get them to update), a charge off from MBNA for over $6,000 that's still on my report and Discover has numerous late pays on Equifax and TU but was deleted from Experian. I also have a paid and an unpaid state tax lien.

Citibank pulled TU on me, Target and American Express pulled Experian.

    Whew. I hope that helps.
