is your home improvement loan a loan with installment terms or can you borrow up to x amount over x amount of time (like a revolving line) and then it goes to an installment loan.

my brother got one like that and the Revolving part will KILL your scores. Boy they don't tell you that.

BUT, if it's an installment loan with normal installment terms then I'd write a scathing letter, fax and mailed certified rr stating how they're violating the fcra, holding you from getting other credit, and you'll hold them liable for their misreporting to the tune of your failed citi and any other applications until they correct.

then if it should be an installment loan, dispute it with the bureaus also (write the letter to them first) and see if they put an "in dispute" notation on your trade line themselves: if they don't then they're starting to rack up violations.

this is actually very fun. You can get them to correct it to "I", remove it completely, or pay for their misreporting. You can get paid, have part of the violations offset your loan, or just get the correction or deletion. Up to how far you want to push this if they're really in the wrong.

Did you get good news? I'm curious if citi responded to your pfb if you did it.

Speaking of Citibank USA, the less organized version:

Citibank USA issued my Goodyear card last year, a card which had formerly been issued by Hurley State Bank. Maybe Citibank USA also issues the other former Hurley cards like Radio Shack, United Travel Card, etc. Just a guess. Citibank acquired Associates, which already owned Hurley.

I went searching for the old Citibank USA HHonors card, and apparently it isn't issued any more. I think only Amex issues HHonors cards now.

Thank you very much, TO. That's a good link to know about.

I looked at the old site, HHonors.com, and the card was no longer there. Then I did web searches to no avail. I'm glad you had the right link available. Creditnet beats Google anytime.

They did not respond and then they asked me for even more info, because it looked good. They said they just need more info from me including a copy of my entire credit report. I told them I'll make due with my Disney Platinum from BO and my Amex Blue, both of which I was approved for while waiting for these bozos. I alsotold them that they could keep the card, I wasn't interested anymore. :)

Citibank will go after you soon enough, simply because of your good credit scores. They recently sent my friend an offer for a 0% BT rate for about 15 months.

OK. I gotta ask this (even though it's a bit OT). Doing a search I found that some say that Citi has a blacklist, some say they don't, and some say that if you were approved with a charge-off from years ago you fell through the cracks.

Anyone know for sure for sure?

I remember that issue from years ago, so to speak. The consensus was that both Citibank and American Express had internal blacklists beyond which any appeal was difficult.

In a way, that makes sense, because Citibank has actually been quite tolerant of old delinquencies with OTHER creditors, provided they aren't too recent. They just want to make sure it doesn't happen to them.

I think another useful question would be: can you pay your old debt to get off the blacklist? Another would be: does the blacklist last forever? If not, how long does it last? (The 7 year rule obviously doesn't apply here.)

The following has been made pretty clear:
    1. Amex has a blacklist and never forgets.

    2. You can pay what you owe to Amex and they'll kiss and make up with an approval either immediately (in some instances) or after a while (some say one year).

    3. Citi has a blacklist but sometimes forgets to check it.

I'd really like for Citi to be consistent. Either use it or lose it (if they still have it). Clear?

I wouldn't want to be on the Citibank blacklist, since they're generally a good bank. I'd much rather be on, let's say, the Household Bank blacklist, if there is one. No big loss there.

HOUSEHOLD sold my closed account to FLEET...

It was PRIME -0.25%...but when FLEET got it they "THOUGHT" they could change the interest rate to something like 22%++

I TOLD THEM THE FACTS AND THEY REFUNDED MOST OF THE OVERCHARGED INTEREST...I DID THE MATH FOR THEM...THEY STILL DIDN'T REFUND 100% OF THE OVER-CHARGED INTEREST...I GOT ONLY LIKE 95% OR SO...

I don't know if I'm on HH BLACK LIST or not...

PAY ON TIME, EVERY TIME FOR LIKE 7 YEARS AND THEY TRY TO CHARGE AN ANNUAL FEE...SO I CLOSED IT...THEN THEY SOLD MY ACCOUNT!!!

It's probably a blessing to be on HH's blacklist. Providian's, too as well as Cross Country.

Does anyone know the ins and outs of Citi's blacklist?

If there is one (and there seems to be), why do they sometimes forget and not other times?

I don't think there is a Citi or HH blacklist... I had a charge-off with Citi and Beneficial back in 1995 and was approved for a Citi and HH card last year. Just my two cents, others may have a different experience.

I believe I'm blacklisted by both Citibank and American Express. Over 10 years ago I had filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy . Both Citibank and American Express credit cards were included. Since then my credit profile has already been cleared of any derogatory information and I now have an average Fico score of 749 (3 credit bureaus). I had recently applied to Citibank and American Express and both declined to grant me credit. Reason-their credit cards were part of the bankruptcy. On the upside, I also applied for Chase Platinum and MBNA Worldpoints and was approved with a favorable interest rate. I should also mentioned that I currently have a banking relationship with Citibank. What's mind boggling to me is that I was approved for a home-equity line of credit and an overdraft plus-checking, yet when it came to their credit cards it's a no, no!

Welcome, and thanks for sharing your experience.

One quick suggestion regarding the quote I snipped from your response. The only score that's meaningful if you pull reports directly from the three majors is the one provided by Equifax. It's a true FICO, although creditors will use various flavors of it along with other internal scoring criteria to judge your viability as a customer. If you've lurked for a while, you'll note the use of the term FAKO. Those are the native scores provided by TransUnion and Experian. Are they useful? Yes - but only to you to use as a measurement tool while you're fixing errors on your reports.
