In most cases, it is easier to apply for the Citi AA card and upgrade to Plat. Select.

The requirements for the AA card are more laxed than those for the Plat. Select.

    Good Luck,

p.s. I have applied for the Citi AA card and transferred to different products three times now.

I wonder if I'm declined for the Plat, will they give me another offer or just pass me by completely.

they will pass you by completely.

citibank gives you online approval, instantly with the credit limit.

I thought Citi will only consider you for the card you're applying for. They don't recommend alternate cards if you don't qualify, do they? (which is the question Sam was responding to).

oops, also meant to say that when I was approved for my card, it did display my limit, then my raised limit when the BT offer was presented, which I did receive.

    This is my question?

Citibank approval is only for the specific product. Which i why i tell folks to get the AAdvantage. unless you are a student. Easiest to qualify for.

Not sure what you mean. Your question "I wonder if I'm declined for the Plat, will they give me another offer or just pass me by completely." was answered by sam, but disputed by brad.

MY response was to back up what sam said, based on my experience. I don't see where he's misinformed. Is that what you're asking?

No, they don't. Sam is right; it's just that his answer was a little unclear - as I made the wrong assumption the first time I read his post, too.

    jfpruitt,

If you applied by telelphone - it takes much, much longer to get the application reviewed than via online. I applied for one card via telephone and the credit dept. didn't even *receive* the application until 10 days later.

I don't know abmuch about Citi, but I do know that hubby applied for a Plat card with them and they asked for employment verification...then just the other day he got a card in the mail, it is not a Plat...the letter with it says we are sorry that you did not qualify for the Plat, but here is your new card (I guess just a regular one? It is blue and white) with $3500 limit 16.4%...makes the Cap 1 with $700 look like a joke....

no problem...maybe it is only if your credit qualifies you but income does not? His income is really wierd, so maybe they don't always offer other cards, maybe only in situations like that? I don't know...anyone?

I got the pre-select offer in the mail. They pulled Equifax with a 652 FICO. I called after 2 weeks and was told I was declined. The rep was rather nice and said that had I not had so many inquiries I would of had no problem getting the card and told me to reapply in 4-6 months. Had about 8 inquiries since January.

I just applied online got the old "As soon as your application is processed, we'll send the results to the address you submitted on your application."

    So much for knowing instantly.

I got that response too. I thought maybe it meant I was declined and they were just going to send a letter. I have a 654 Fico. Not Plat Select...AA card
