I got a pre-approved letter from Citibank for their Platinum dividend Mastercard. The letter said I was pre-approved and all I had to do was accept the card by filling out the "acceptance application". I didn't like the word "application", since that inplied I would still have to apply for the card.

I went to the website, entered my pre-approval code and personal information, and submitted the form. After a few seconds, a screen came up that said "You have completed the application process. A letter will be mailed to the address that you specified after processing is complete".

I have pretty good scores (over or around 700 on all reports) so I didn't anticipate any problems, but I was also expecting an instant approval. Has anyone else applied for this card or have been pre-approved and had this happen?

I had questions about the same thing last week.

I think you will get a hard inq. if it's not instant approval on the phone or internet.

In 2001 I got 7 cards with instant approval w/o a hard inq.

Last week I received 3 pre-qualified offers, AT&T, Citi, and MBNA. MBNA is the only one that said call for instant approval. (I already have one.)

I will apply for any card with instant approval, but none that I have to wail for approval because I don't want a hard on my CR. (Exception would be another business card or 2 if I don't receive pre-approvals in the next week or so.

Oh my God! How did you do that? Is there something I'm missing? I was under the impression that whenever you apply for credit, a hard inquiry is pulled...

I just applied too. No pre-approval offer, just went to their site and filled out the app for them to pick out a card. I got the same response. Please keep us updated as to your results as I am sure you will hear something before I do!! So much for Instant Approval!!

    Good Luck!
