Citibank problem

Hi all, I recently mailed the monthly payment for my Citi card. I checked the automated system four days later to see if it was posted, the system didn't have the record of the recent payment so I spoke to a csr and she said that they didn't have any record either. The thing is that the check did clear on Thursday so the csr told me to send the photocopy of the check and they will credit my account. I normally receive my list of cleared checks once a month, but the problem is that I will only get this statement after the Citi payment due date (Nov 1st). I went to my local bank and they told me to wait for the statement in the mail.

So I was wondering what should I do? I was thinking that if the Citi automated system didn't post my payment by this Tuesday, I'll send them another check for the same amount as the last one and then request a credit for the first one that wasn't posted after I get my checking account statement. Does anyone have any other suggestions ??? I can't believe this happened.

Won't your bank send you a photocopy of the cleared check before the statement is printed...even for a fee?

Set up ACH payment through Citi...that way you can be sure it posts on time and you save postage....with todays/tomorrows snail mail, who knows how long it will take to send payments via USPS.

With SNAIL-MAIL, it can now take 7-10 days for payments that used to take 2-3 days...

If you have a citibank checking account, you can link the accounts and do a transfer between checking or saving directly to your citicard.

    It's only a 4 day turn around.

I do that all the time. Also you can use online payments to schedule payments to other accounts. And avoid all the hassle of receiving statements, writing checks and licking stamps.

Leo, you can do that with any checking account (well not the transfer from savings part) but I pay online with my checking account and it is not a Citi checking account. All you have to do is tell them your ABA and account information...then when you wanna pay you just enter an amount and say OK.

I also do this with my Cap1 and my FNANB cards.

I'd have to say paying electronically is the ONLY way to go. That way you can wake up and smell the coffee (and see your balance every morning). A sober reminder of how much (debt) or (not) you have, instead of being "suprised" at the end of the month.

Paying electronically, twice a month, is very healthy too, so in case, you forget, there's no loss. Paying twice a month also reduces your debt a lot quicker in real life.

I would make another payment of a different amount. If your first payment was 50, make the next one 51. Easier to differentiate them.

    It'll keep the confusion down.

Your payment isn't in their system. they will correct it. But, it will be a small pain.

AND, if they report your account as late to the bureaus then you get to deal with the 3 Stooges too.

Easier to make another payment then get credit for the first one later. Make sure to ask for interest credit when they put the first payment on your account (I'd go for the whole month's interest as a courtesy credit).

You're lucky you know about it now. Make an online payment and rest easier. this is a no brainer.

    Do another payment today :)

I like to use the auto-pay with a set amount above the minum due..I have done this for almost 2 years now and never had a problem once!

The post office that routes all of the mail in DC has been closed. SO online is the way to go!

WOULDN'T IT BE NICE IF MOST OF THE CREDIT CARD PAYMENT PROCESSING CENTERS WERE IN DC.......INSTEAD OF IL, AZ, DE.

I don't think it's a mail delay because I've recently paid my other card bills by mail and the payments were posted right away. Also, the check did clear a few days after I mailed it so I know that Citibank received it. I think the rep who works on these things probably forgot to enter it into the system. I think it's a good idea to send another check of a different amount and request a credit for the first payment.

Same here. I have had autopay since they have introduced it. It automatically deducts either a specified amount, the minimum due, or the full balance (which ever you choose) from your checking account. Also, I live right across the street from a Citibank branch so I also make payments at the ATM machine.

Here is a neat trick creditors pull .
You pay say 100 bucks they add it as a charge instead.
When you complain they credit the account $100.
How much money did you just get beat out of?

    Good point, lb...

My mother lost $3000 with American Express due to a mix up exactly like that. I'm trying to help her get it back.
