I got my Platinum Select and AAdvantage Gold cards today. The website quoted me terms of 12.49% APR when I was approved, but the card arrived with terms indicating an 11.99!! My Platinum Select had a CL of $5,000 with only a $1,500 cash advance limit and I didn't know what terms the AAdvantage card would come in with because I was not instantly approved. The Aadvantage card came with a $9,000 CL with all $9,000 available for cash advances and a 15.9% APR. I called and said the APR was high and asked what products they could transfer me into that would have no annual fee and a lower APR. The rep was nice and told me that they could lower the APR by 1% if I transferred to Platinum Select or by 2.5% if I transferred to the Platinum Select Dividends which offers a 1% cash rebate and no annual fee. That's the offer I accepted. The rep said he couldn't tell me what balance transfer options I would get for another couple of days and told me to call back when I get the new card and account number. Wow! Between this week and last week with the two Citi cards and the Target card, I was approved for $20,000 in new credit! I'm done for now.
Congrats, and welcome to the citi family! You might consider combining those two cards so you could get that 11.99 APR for your whole credit limit.
I was thinking about doing that, but I think I can ask to do that at any time. I transferred all of my other balances to the first card though, and if I were to combine the accounts now I would be forfeiting my grace period until the balance transfers are paid off. This way I get to keep an interest-free grace period on the zero balance card. Am I right that I can call at a later time to combine?
