Ok, so I couldn't come up with a subject line that made sense. I have a Platinum Select with a heathy credit line. I know that Citi will not allow me anymore credit with them, even on a different card (I have tried with the BDD). The HHonors Visa Signature card issued by Citibank USA. The Plat Select by Citibank. The account access for the HHonors is different from most of the other Citibank cards and so is the website in which you apply .... Citibankusa.com vs. Citibank.com . Question #1 Does anyone know if a the HHonors is affected by CLs with Citibank cards or only by those offered by Citibankusa (besides the amount showing on your credit report). Here's why I'm asking. I know if I apply for a card from any bank I don't have a card with, I would probably get approved. However, if I where to apply with Citibank (or MBNA for that matter) I would get declined for having too much credit already with their bank. So, would applying with CitibankUSA be the same as applying with Citibank or would it be like applying with a completely separate bank. Hopefully someone can answer this for me as I would really like a Signature card but don't want to touch the Plat Select credit line. Question #2 If it is known that they are actually the same (I know that are all under the Citigroup umbrella) can one transfer a portion of the credit line of a platinum select card to open a HHonors card? Thanks in advance for taking the time to address my questions. I appreciate it.
You cannot transfer a portion of credit nor combine. Although they fall under the "CITI" group name, they are a separate entity. They have their own rules, standards, etc all separate from citibank SDNA...
Sam, Thanks, that covers question #2. I figured as much, glad to have it comfirmed. So, for #1, would you agree with me that applying with Citi USA would be the same as me applying with a completely separate bank. Existing credit lines with Citibank would mean just as much/as little as existing credit lines with MBNA, AmEx, Etc?
Jason, Citi and Citi USA are two separate banks with NO crossover I've seen other than sharing the "Citi" logo. Their credit depts are completely separate entities. I do not know whether Citi USA would be inclined to give preferential treatment to those holding Citi tradelines. Based on my experiences thus far, I don't see that kind of sensitivity or sophistication with them. It is not possible to combine/convert cards from Citibank to or from Citibank USA. Citibank USA pulled Trans Union for me (same CRA as Citibank), and I live in Equifax land
Jason, I was recently approved for the Citi HHonors Visa Signature card. I already had a Sony Platinum Select card from Citibank. I think the revolving limit you get from Citi USA is affected by your limit on the Platinum Select because my Sony CL is 7500 and that is exactly what Citi USA gave me for my revolving limit. It looks like Citi USA tries to match the limit from your other Citi accounts.
I think this will answer question 1: You can get a Citi USA account even if Citibank will not give you anymore credit. It happened to me. I have a Platinum select with a 22,700 limit. Citibank will not increase my limit or give me a new card. They tell me I have the max. credit they will give me. So I go and apply for Citibank USA cards. I actually was approved for 4 cards. I then combined them all into the HHonors card, and the limit is 28k. So, they are completely independent, and the limit allowed by one has no bearing on the limit allowed by the other.
Thanks for your help Marci and Steve. The Other, that was exactly was I was looking for. The Other, for curiousity, which 4 cards did you apply for and then combine through CitiUSA? Also, what is your current APR on the HHonors? Did you have it lowered or tried to have it lowered? And lastly, have you been happy with CitiUSA and the HHonors card? Thanks for taking the time.
I received the following: Quicken Platinum (5k) Netscape Platinum (5k) Travelocity World card (12k) Hilton HHonors Visa card (5k) I combined these all into the Hhonors card for a limit of 27k. (I think I may have accidently said 28k in a previous post - sorry) I am just coming off the 0% for 6 months that you get when you open the hhonors card. But it will be going to prime +5.99. Not yet, but I plan on trying. I didn't see the point of trying while I was on the 0% intro offer. I haven't had any major problems. When the accounts were combined, I requested the combinations 1 at a time, and each combination took a week or more. This is not at all like with Citibank, NA who does it immediately while you are on the phone. The webpage isn't great, though it is not the worst. My fiance and I do use this card for all our purchases, and we use all our other cards for bts. Also, when I applied for the card, it was just a platinum visa, they did not offer the card as a signature visa like they do now. With a platinum visa, you have access to the telephone automated system, but if you have the signature visa, you go straight to a person. I requested that my card be changed to the signature visa, but found out that they won't do it. If you want the signature, you have to re-apply. I would recommend them, though they have not been my favorite bank to deal with. I like getting the hilton points, and I have a rewards card that has no annual fee.
The other, Actually I am so ticked off with their customer service, I'd much rather hear my account information via computer. Do you mind sharing the automated customer service phone number with me?
Does Citibank and CitiUSA have separate websites? How can I tell which will back a card before applying for it?
Hey Love, Yes they do... http://www.citibankusa.com/ vs http://www.citibank.com/ Not positive about the answer for your 2nd question. However, most of the affiliate cards seem to be though citibankusa.
Love, Citibank: www.citibankcards.com Citibank USA: www.citibankusa.com These are completely separate websites. As far as knowing which bank is issuing which card - Citibank's website lists all of the cards it offers (excepting, I think, the AT&T Universal co-branded cards). If you are ever unsure while applying, just check the "terms and conditions" to see who is actually issuing the card.
