Do CC co.'s usually pull a hard inquiry when you ask for a credit line increase?

    GREAT QUESTION!
Does anyone know the answer? How about CAP1, do they pull hard inquiry for CL increase??

LOL That is actually why I am asking. CAP1 pulled a hard inquiry on my EXP report after I asked for a inrease. Mr. Cooke said he'd get back to me and he pulled the inquiry the next day. So far nothing on TU or EQU. And I haven't heard back from Mr. Cooke either yet.

Was wondering if there is any chance of getting it removed? Is that a standard thing they do? Do they pull it on all three reports. (So far they only pulled on EXP for me. Cost me 3 points).

    Some do some don't.

    I got a $5,000 credit limit increase from FIRST USA...NO INQUIRY...but when I later did a BT...they did a "HARD"...I disputed it...IT WENT BYE BYE...

This is what I rec'd from Citibank:

our credit department automatically reviews accounts after they have been open for a year. If you process a Credit Line increase request online, a credit bureau report may be pulled.

Thank you for using our website.

It appears that if you request an increase, you may get a hard inquiry. If it is offered out of the blue, and you accept - no inquiry.

    Thanks for the replies everyone!!

I think that I will 1st ask Mr. Cooke to remove it when I speak with him to get results of CL increase and if that doesn't work then 2nd... dispute with EXP.

Good idea GEORGE, I wish I thought of asking before I requested the increase.. They better at least approve me and make it worth my 3 point loss!! LOL

Citibank pulled a hard inquiry on me when I asked for a CL increase even though the rep on the phone ABSOLUTELY assured me that she wouldn't. I wrote to Citi about it and the fact that I specifically requested that if one was necessary then forget the CL and told them it WASN'T worth the hard inquiry to me. I had told them if they needed to pull one at all that since I am a current customer they can do an AR (account review soft inquiry). They lied to me and now won't remove the hard inquiry. I'm in round two of my letters to them to try and resolve this.

This is a "GRAY" area...they have a "PERMISSABLE PURPOSE" to pull...BUT THEY DON'T NEED THE "HARD"...but they do it anyway...

If I had to have a "HARD"...I would rather just apply for a SECOND card...

    AR'S ARE EASY TO DO!!!

They act like they need 16 signatures from bank employees to do a "SOFT"...and have to pay $30.00!!!!

But a "HARD" needs NO signatures from employees...and they pay $1.00!!!!!!!!!

Cap One has never pulled a hard inquiry when I've asked for a CL increase (which I've done lots since they always say no LOL).
