I have a new card on the way. (yehaaa). Anyway, I'm hoping to get a CL increase, it's 15k now. Rep on the phone said to check after card arrives. It has a great BT offer, so I'm thinking that if I offer to do a couple of BT's they might raise the limit. ANyone have any suggestions or strategies here.

I really want to use the BT, but not if I have to use 80% of the CL and kill my scores some more.

What card is it? What company issues the card?

Call American Express at 1-800-the card and press "2" to check the status of your application. Once you hear the "congratulations you are approved... your optima should arrive ___ days", then - wait - and press "2" (I believe that's the number) to speak with a customer service rep. That department will be New Accounts.

Once you're in New Accounts, ask them to submit a request for a credit line increase to __ amount. They will submit the request and you'll know in 48 hours what your new credit line is. You should be sure to tell them to make a note on the request that you want to do a BT and want ___ credit limit to keep your utilization below a certain percentage.

This works, according to what I've read on CreditNet, only in the first 30 days of the opening of the account. Otherwise, you'll have to wait a full 6 months before putting in for an increase.
