I applied for a Chase card last month. Got it, but only with a 5K CL. The underwriter I talked with indicated it was lower because at that time we had a $11900 balance on our $12K joint Chase account. (He was only going to approve it for $2K at first.) But it was 0% so what could we do?

Well, we moved money around and in so doing paid off that balance.

Then, we requested an increase on the Walmart Chase account we've had almost 2 years. It's been sitting at $1700 for ages. They declined the request. We asked for reconsideration, noting that the only neg on the TU they pulled was a $75 paid medical coll. that wasn't ours. 3 days later that puppy's CL was $10K.

I called and asked for a CL increase on my brand new account from last month, never used. 2 days later that CL is $10K also.

So, the two pieces I gleaned from this little exercise are 1. With Chase - ALWAYS ASK FOR RECONSIDERATION and 2. you can get more if you can get your current Chase balance to low or zero before putting in the request.

They did pull hards for us for both increases.

TU FAKOs were 680 and 660 with 25-30% utilization. The 680 had the single 2+ year old paid collection. The 660 was clean.

Needless to say, those CLs and the 0% BT deals Chase is offering now are going to be a huge help in our business funding.

(One of these days maybe we'll get around to charging some kind of luxury something to the cards, just to see what THAT feels like...)
