I'm contemplating taking a class to be a credit repair technician not only for my own benefit, but to help family members, friends and maybe make some money on the side. The class is offer for $325 and it's two days (3 or 4 hours each day). what do you guys think? any advise would be appreciated. thanks,
With all due respect, that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I don't mean to denigrate you for wanting to get some training but, you can do that for free. Sounds like another scam to me . . . In any event, CRO's have gotten a really bad name due in large part to the CRA's and, well, there have been alot of scammers out on the periphery. There are some good ones however which operate within the law ("CROA") and actually offer a decent service for people which are literally to busy to learn and apply the standard attack on their own. With that said, I wouldn't sign up to be a technician. If you want to dabble in credit repair for a profit, read up on the CROA, register with your state, and invest in some advertising. It ain't cheap, trust me.
I won't say its the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. After all, it seems like a great thing you are trying to accomplish in order to help those around you. I WILL agree however, that you can do it for free. Read this board, ask questions and be empowered by the knowledge you can gain here. Don't spend the money. DO learn how to clean your credit file.
I could not believe what I was reading on the site this company has. The thing that stuck out to me like a sore thumb was the fact that for the "Full Credit Repair" it was 493.99 for the first month and .99 cents each month thereafter. What this screams to me is lets see how to skate around the law that states you cannot charge everything upfront. What bothers me about this is the fact that most companies that do ask for the money upfront have a problem delivering any results and do not want to have to ask for anymore money per month. I have seen a couple of companies that are legit, DO NOT pay this company any money to learn, when you WILL learn more than that company will teach you in 3/4 hours if you just sit reading the posts on this site.
Although it has nothing to do with the OP's post, I did pick up on your thinly veiled attack which I feel warrants a response. First and foremost, the site in my signature does not offer training to be a "credit repair technician." If you would bother to read my reply to the OP's post, you'd have observed that, in fact, I told him it was a bad idea. Secondly, your perception that this company's fees are an attempt to "skate" around the law; i.e. the Credit Repair Organization Act ("CROA"), is ridiculous. There fee schedules are in full compliance with the law and moreover, what you view on the site is only one of the schedules they offer. How many companies charge bogus and illegal set up fees? That is an example of not only attempt to circumvent the law but, a direct violation of the CROA. Moreover, you fail to mention that the site's full service offers a little more than just the run of the mill dispute letters. In comparison, the site offers the typical service that is offered by such "reputable" providers as Lexington Law and Ovation for far less but, I digress . . . Finally, it is amazing that nearly everyone thinks that EVERYONE else has the time, effort, and resources to learn everything that is needed to battle credit reporting agencies and furnishers of information. Yes, you can learn it and the site says as such. However, you cannot learn what you NEED to know is the 3/4 hours you suggest. More often than not, you learn to damage yourself further in only 3/4. The fact is that some people do not have the time, desire, or ambition to learn and apply this for themselves. In any event, I just wanted to clear that up.
