Hello all, I placed a classified ad for $30. They asked if they should bill me or if I wanted to pay by credit card. I told them to bill me and gave them the following information *only*:

    Name
    Address

I forgot all about it (I don´t remember even seeing a bill) and low and behold, it´s on my equifax! Can they do this? How did they do this? I never gave them my SS number or signed anything.

Meanwhile, any ideas for taking care of this?

    Thanks,

    Jim

    THEY DON'T NEED SS#

BUT...they must TRY to collect money from you at the address given...

I assume you are making a POINT...no CITY or STATE or ZIP was given...or PHONE.

...BUT HOW MANY JIM SMITHS live at 19432 JONES PLACE??? Even if they don't have a CITY and STATE...

THEIR FAILURE TO GET CITY, STATE, ZIP AND PHONE NUMBER IS THEIR PROBLEM...

It should have an address for the REPORTING COMPANY on the credit report...send them a letter saying "YOU NEVER BILLED ME...I WILL PAY THE $30.00 AND YOU NEED TO REMOVE THE NEGATIVE REPORT"

FAILURE TO BILL DOES NOT GIVE THEM THE RIGHT TO HARM YOUR CREDIT REPORT

No, unfortunately I did give them city, state and zip as part of my address. And even more unfortunately, I paid it off already when I was getting car loan and they told me I have to pay off any outstanding tradelines. This was before I knew about credit and credit repair.

Do I need to go Nutcase on them then?

OK...dispute it (WITH THE CRA) as PAID IN FULL...NOT LATE...NOT COLLECTION or what ever it says...YOU NEVER SAID WHAT IT IS REPORTING AS...

    OR THE OLD STANDBY---"NOT MINE"
