Hi, everyone. I'm trying to clean up my credit reports. Nothing major on them, just little naggy things like accounts that are closed are still being updated every month (although they do say closed - $0 balance on all of them). Also, how do I go back and close some accounts that are being reported as open. An example, is JcPenney's. I opened this in 1997 and completely forgot I had it. I do not know the account # nor the telephone #. Also, Victoria's Secret is reporting my one account as three accounts. How do I correct this? Should I go through the CRA or WFNNB? Thanks for your help.

I have Dillards on mine twice on TU....funny thing is, when my original account was charged off, they added four more digits to the account number - a charge off code from what they told me. So I have one reporting as still open in good standing, and one reporting as a charge off.
I did dispute it with them, because the charge off was paid and was not reflecting this. However, they didn't touch the good reference...which I guess is good...I can use all the good stuff I can get!

    Safyre,

Thanks for replying. I guess it's best to dispute with the creditor, right? Then they can up date the report with the CRAs. Have a great weekend.

    Dani,
For the little stuff go with trying to have the creditor fix things with the Credit Bureaus. I had several accounts in good standing REMOVED by the Credit Bureaus which should not have been removed as they were positive tradelines. Some I had stupid questions about. They put it in as a 'dispute' and the creditor did not come back with a reply in time. The items were deleted. One creditor can no longer find my file for a positive tradeline installment (car) loan that was paid off. I would have liked that positive trade line to stay but now it is gone.

Anything you write to or call the Credit Bureas about could end up deleted entirely so be careful. I have learned the hard way ONLY to address real negative or derogatories with the credit bureaus.

    Dani & Safyre,

I work for a finance company and some of our customers get several entries reported on their credit report. Each time the account transfers to a new location it is given a new account number and hence a new enty on the cr.

So what makes these accounts transfer around? When accounts go to collections and then when they get charged off. We do get customers requesting us to delete them and on occasion (depending on my boss's mood) we will delete duplicate accounts. The bad news is we will always report the last status of the account, which is always charge-off.

So you may get the duplicates deleted but you may be deleting the entries that are helping your score. Just some food for thougt.

    Good luck,
    PuuOoPaul

Reporting the same account multiple times goes against the FCRA.. Maybe you should suggest to your boss to be in a good mood more often so as to avoid future problems.

Thanks Mist and PuuOoPaul for your great information. I will contact the creditors to delete the small stuff. PuuOoPaul, I don't have any collections or chargeoffs. On my report it looks like each of the CRAs has a different account # for my Victoria's Secret (VS) card. And the numbers are way off. The first three numbers are not even the same. I think I will contact VS tomorrow and ask them about it and see if they will correct it. It makes me look like I have three VS accounts (one is plenty). Thanks again guys for your help.
