I closed my amex gold charge 2 months ago and when they refunded my membership fee I had a credit balance of over $100. They told me 3 weeks ago that I would get a check in 7-10 days. However, I still do not have my money. Anyone else have this problem. I wonder if I can hit them with a late fee? This really reduces their chances of me getting another amex card.
I am in grad. school and I was not traveling as much as I did when I first got the card. So, I could not justify the $130 fee when I was only spending about 5 or 6K a year - the MR's were not worht that much to me. So, I wanted a cashback card that gave a straight 1% reguardless. I graduate in May and was considering reopening the card once I got a job because I knew I would be traveling more. But, now I am not sure I want to fool with AMEX since it is taking them so long to send my refund. Maybe Diners Club. But, I will not be paying a fee for any card until I do more traveling. Willis
Funny thing is that I cut the cards up and shredded all of the paperwork; now I do not know what my card number was to call about it. I can still log on an send emails to them but I cannot find my account number. Willis
Call them, they can probably find you from your SSN. One thing I've started doing since I found this site is that I keep either one card or one statement from every account I've had, just to have the history. I see too many people who aren't sure if something is theirs, if it's an old account, or what. I know that some of my accounts have changed banks (banks got bought or something) and the old account reports under the new name. I had to match account numbers. I was desperately trying to figure out one of my accounts, said it had nothing to do with me, then realized that the bank had been sold.
I just called; used the SS#. They say the check was mailed on the 3rd. So, now I am wondering did the postal service deliver it to the wrong address. However, it could be due to the holiday season and the extra volume of mail being delivered - I hope. It's odd that you can pay online - money leaves your account electronically and goes to their's, yet they have to send you a check for a refund. Why is it so hard for companies to credit your refund electronically? Okay, enough venting, thanks for listening.
My guess it's a control system to prevent internal fraud. Don't feel bad, I mailed back a Netflix dvd last Sunday and it's still not there. Best regards, Mirage
