Well, I'm down to one subprime card now: Providian. It's my oldest and I'll probably have it forever. My second oldest was Capital One. They billed my $29 annual fee last month and refused to waive it (actually, you can see my planetfeedback letter if you go look -- it's a funny story). At least Providian refunds my annual fee every year. I told them if they wouldn't refund the fee they could close the account. Mr. Cooke called me after my PF letter, but I didn't call back until today. I told him I thought I would never get anywhere with that account because it had been opened when I had bad credit. He tried to get me to keep it open, but didn't really have enough to offer considering the other deals I have.
I'm thinking of closing my capitalone right now as well. I got it 2.5 years ago when I couldn't qualify for anything else, and it's my second to oldest account. My oldest if a FirstUSA account opened in 1996. The FirstUSA was subprime ($900 limit @21.99% and an annual fee). After cleaning up my credit last year, I allowed them to pull my credit (they pulled EFX), and I was approved for a platinum card, and a $7,500 limit (no annual fee), so they transfered the account (so it still says open in 1996). Capitalone wont budge on the anual fee, and I dont feel like applying for their no-hassle card (they might pull all 3 reports). Besides, I have 6 credit cards right now (all prime except for cap1), and I want to bring it down to 4 cards. Just not sure how closing a 2.5 yr old card would affect my score when everything else is less than a year old (except the firstusa of course).
Don´t give personal information to GatorDeb...Didn´t you remember his/her previous post?: "If you don't mind saying, which card is it?" Line increase question. I finally got rid of my Cap One card last month, although I'll miss wrangling with Mr. Cooke, lol. Doc
