This has probably been discussed on this board many times, but I can't seem to find the answer I am looking for. I have a charge
off from Citibank in 1997. Citibank sold the acount to Gulf State credit. They are now
both appearing on my credit report. I called
the CRA, and asked them to change the balance owed to Citibank to zero and put Account sold to Gulf State. My question is, do I have the
right to demand that Citibank remove their entry? Wouldn't both of these appering on my credit report lower my score unfairly. This is only one account, allthough it looks like two. Thanks to all for any input.

I ask the same question last week. Haven't got an response yet. This is the same situation as mine. I had an account with Chevy Chase Bank FSB they was brought by First USA and First USA sold the account to NCO. I have NCO in collections and First USA as a charge off I don't think there should be 2 entries on CR with the same amount it looks as though I owe the 2,000.00 twice. I hope we will get some answers.

You should contact the CRA and explain to them that the orgininal debt (Citibank) was sold or turned over to Gulf State. This is a duplicate entry. The CRA will remove one of the accounts listed - usually the original creditor. The listing on the report should reflect Gulf State as the account holder and Citibank listed below as the original creditor.

they can not both report separate entries on your credit report plan and simple. If you want further verification call the FTC and ask them and followup with a complaint.

desmond, I thought I did respond to this question when you posted it earlier. The answer is that they can not report it twice. They can only report it once with reference to the original debtor and the CB knows this. Dispute the item as a duplicate if you like or simply threaten them with a complaint to the FTC if they dont correct it.

To answer your questions, about NCO, I have two comments:

    (1) A class action law suit was filed in federal court in Philadelphia on October 10, 2000. I think it concerned NCO reporting other creditor's accounts in NCO's own name after the original account had appeared on the consumer's credit report for 7 yearsa nd then come off. I have nothing to do with that lawsuit.

    (2) I had litigated the same issue with NCO in court in Pittsburgh. I won. NCO paid me.

    (3) You can click on the SEARCH icon above, and insert "NCO GREAT TRUST" or "MBA IN PITTSBURGH" or "mba9999" and you will be directed to earlier messages about this on this CREDITNET.COM message board.

I am in the same boat as you are with Citibank and Gulf State. Do as everyone said, but make sure that Gulf State reports the day of the charge off on you report, NOT the day they bought the credit file. My charge off was in 91 or 92 or 93 (well past the seven year limit now), but they are reporting from 1995 or 1996. I am not giving exact years just in case they try to pull some B.S. from reading this board.

First of all, relax about the dates, no body knows who you are. Secondly, they have to report the original dates as the last activity date and not the date they bought or started reporting the debt. Light a fire to their butts and get that crap off your report. its too old to be on their now.
