My credit report'(s) (Experian, Equifax) show a collection account by Midcoast Credit Corp thats was trying to collect on a MC account that was charged off several years ago is this legal? How can I get them off my credit report?

Yes it is legal to place the account on your report. Has the collection agency notified you in writing yet? You can dispute the account with the credit bureau as "not mine", but that will not eliminate the problem itself. Do a search here for validation letter and send that to the collection agency certified mail, return receipt requested. That will good enough to get you started. But you need to read the past posts here on validating debts.

Yes I received letters and phone calls from them. I haven't heard from them for several months and thought they had given up until I saw my credit report
