On my credit report, there is a collection agency and it lists the original creditor on the entry also. I contacted the collection agency and asked them in exchange for payment,I requested that they remove the account from my credit report. (the debt was originally $62.00 and now with costs is $108.00-- statute also expired 6/6/00) They refused and said the only way they could remove it would be, if it was a billing error. I contacted the original creditor, who I have been going in circles with for the last month, and they told me that I need to pay the collection agency. The original creditor has agreed to remove the entry from the credit reports. Why would I pay the collection agency, if the original creditor still owned the debt?
