I sent a validation letter to a CA and got back a response that they were deleting the account with the CRA's. It was only on my Equifax report and now it is not there, however, now I received a letter from another CA for the same debt. It looks like they sold the debt. What should I do? The new CA hasn't reported anything to the CRA's (got the letter a week ago.) and the amount is $150.00. Should I send them a validation letter also? or should I just send them payment in exchange for them not reporting it? Once it would get on the credit reports, it would be a lot of work to remove them. BTW, the debt is from late 1998.

I was in a similar situation (where one CA handed off the debt to another after I requested validation from the first), so, I just sent off the estoppel letter to the second CA, told them the FDCPA prohibits them from handing a debt off to another CA just because the consumer knows his/her rights and requests validation, and if they do not close this matter, I'll include them in my lawsuit as well.

    Case closed.

I just prepared a really nice estoppel that is going out immediately. I hope it will work. I doubt they are going to continue for $150.00. Thanks for your comments.
