Just to share with everyone-I sent a certified letter to a collection agency for them to validate a debt. This was on 1-2-02. I called and found out they were not licensed to collect a debt in the state of Fla and told them so in the letter. Checked my reports today and they have been deleted! Thank you everyone for the information. I love this board!!!
That's it. Get nasty with them like they do to us. Play their game. Feels good to slap them down doesn't it? LOL Congrats
I don't have a problem at all. The company is called American Collection Co, and they are located in Puyallup, Wa.
I wonder if there's any relation between your company and American Agencies? Anyways, how do you go about findout whether or not they are licensed for collecting in a given state?
Either your states' secretary of state, atty. general or state banking dep't would be the ones handling collection agencies. Go to the websites for your states dep'ts and find out.
Piggybacking on what LKH said previously, for the state of Florida, contact the office of Banking and Finance, 850-410-9895. Good Luck!
what if there is a listing for the collection agency but it says there are no other branches and the address listed is in GA but the place trying to collect is in TX?
Drm- Just curious, was it just one CA acct. or several? Do you know how it affected your score? Congrats! Too bad the CA's don't have to be bonded in NH. KHM
KMH, it was only 1 CA but they actually listed two accounts, both over $300 owed. Still waiting on the score results. I'll keep you posted.
Also no longer able to do business in FL is America's TeleNetwork, dba ATN ( a phone billing company). If you were slammed by them (like I was), don't pay a dime! They can't collect as they are not allowed to do business in FLA. BTW they sell ld air time for MCI, who woulda thought???
Toro- Is it on your credit report as paid? If it is I would send a letter like Drm did and tell them to remove it or get sued! KHM
