Quick question for anyone who may be able to help me. I have 2 collection accounts that are currently on my report. 1. Dish Network. This company blows. There service was awful. I live in Tampa (the lightning capital of the world) and after a few times of losing service, I told them I was finished. Well, they said sorry, pay us or else. I didn't pay for the service over two months that it was out, and the cancellation fee for early cancellation. Now they went to the CBE group for collection of my account. Is there a way to dispute this, and get it off my credit reports? 2. Medical Bills. I have a minor medical bill for a couple hundred bucks that is on my credit report too. Is there a way to get it off my report? If I agree to pay it if they take it off? Dispute it? Any suggestions?
In reference to the Dish Network-referr to your contract for what constitutes a reseasonable amount of time to rectify service being out. If you voluntarily gave up service prior to the contracted date they may have just cause to persue final charges. As to the medical bill, how long ago was this? Were there extenuately circumstances that caused the delay in paying? If so, write them a letter stating such and see if they will work with you on getting the matter settled. It sometimes can swing in your favor if you show a willingness to work with them.
1. Dish Networks. Dispute on grounds of breach of Contract. Since Dish did not supply you with service as agreed they breached the contract making it null and void. All charges from the time they breached on are disputable. If they want to play hard ball - take them to small claims court, chances are you will win if you can prove they did not hold up their end of the bargain and this is why you didn't pay. No one is expected to pay for a service they never received, not their silly cancellation fee either. You will need to dispute directly with CA or Dish. This type of dispute will not work with CRA's.
